from the looks of the first reviews of pes 08 on these forums (for all platforms)...it looks this years release has caused fifa 08 to be a seriously potential option for all us football fans..

The time has come. Fifa has caught up, or has it?

I think it finally has! This years game is no where close to what we were promised! It was supposed to be the best PC sports game ever! That's not even close to the truth! The Goalies are idiots in this one and I think KONAMI f-ed up big time.
 
I would not say it's a case of FIFA catching up more PES caught napping and then shooting itself in the foot...Both games have faults a plenty, but Fifa fans can at least see some effort.....
 
I was expecting greatness. Especially with next gen but it's horrible. I'm playing on Pro and winning 5-3. I couldn't even score on pro last year. The only reason they even score on me is because the keepers are complete garbage. They are super late on every single shot!
 
No I dont think so. Fifa shines but until shooting is sorted they will never be number one. However Pes has stood still in my opinion.
 
nope this pes2008 is rock and roll baby! it rocks, however i cant find the legs option so you can only play one game which sucks at the moment.

Nope...it aint caught up yet.

Despite PES2008 being a big of a dissapointment to all for many reasons. It is still a fantastic video game and the best soccer game bar none....by a mile

Fifa is a good game. PES is a fucking great game.
 
I have only played the fifa demo and the full pes2008 but i liked the fact that there was some midfield buildup in fifa.

IN this PES, all you have to do is dribble in a straight line and shoot. This totally ruins the game. Its like any player with decent dribbling and balance is like Adriano in PES6....so theres basically a 100 of them in the game.

Yeah...the midfield build up play in FIFA is excellent....but the game dies a death in the final 1/3rd of the field both in attack and defense......and if you think some of PES's AI is a bit nippy, some of the bullcrap in FIFA's AI is ropey beyond belief.
 
Fifa has taken a step foward and PES a step back, there's very little difference - PES has lost that realistic feeling it once had with PES 5 - which I think was the best version so far.

HAS ANYONE AT KONAMI EVER PLAYED FOOTBALL AT A REASONABLE LEVEL, OR EVER WATCHES A GAME AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL FOR THAT MATTER - I AM AN EX PRO, AND THE WAY THESE PLAYERS IN PES PERFORM ON THE PITCH IS A JOKE - THE MID FIELD IS NON EXISTANT, PLAYERS VERY RARELY RUN INTO SPACE WHEN YOU ARE ATTACKING, AND YOUR DEFENCE PARTS LIKE THE RED SEA WHEN UNDER ATTACK.

Forget the FIFA PES thing, that only serves as a smokescreen to the flaws in PES. I am a PES fan have been since PES3 came to the PC but lets not kid ourselves, this has not moved on that much. Passing is a bit better but you still have the assisted cpu passing, just when you think you are a tap of a button away from a great pass, you press the button and the ball goes nowhere near the player you were aiming at, it goes to the player the cpu flicked the control icon onto. who just happens to usually be covered by at least 2 defenders.

The slowdown in a game in this day and age is unforgivable! There is no excuse what so ever.

Why am I bothering saying this to be shot at ....

Seabass said it better ... the game is flawed and not what was wanted!

The usual just wait until you see next years...

Gotta agree with the Red Sea and the lack of running into space. Okay, I'm playing in a 4-5-1 formation so I don't expect a lot of great plays, but still. Some players just look like they're picking their nose when I'm on the attack. Even my AMF didn't move a bit when I was trying to hold off four defenders with my magic CF. And then there's the obvious really slow reaction when you're dribbling diagonally and obviously you want the player at the sideline to run into the free space created in the back of the LB/RB, but they rarely do. :(:(:( So I just have to give some crappy pass again. (They're still too fucking slow and wobbly. Are they fucking gingerkids?)

Great post!! I agree with everything. The fundamentals of football, that Konami seemed to have pegged down to a tee in even the ISS days have been left out. Gaping holes between defense and midfielders, no pressure, easy 40m passes and defenders 3-5 meters away from their man every attack nearly.

Anyone that's ever played real football, or that is geniunely a fan of the beautiful game will despise PES6 as it is a basdardisation. And it's such a seemingly small flaw in an otherwise brilliant series of games. Tighten it up Konami, make us work, break defenses down again. Your audience SHOULD NOT BE the fan boys who bitch and whinge about editable boots etc. Wwho gives a flying rats arse? Ganmeplay baby, I want football back. To hell with graphics, faces etc. when you can't get the fundamentals to 1999 standards.

I'm reassured to see i'm not the only one who's absolutely devastated with the passing, the AI, and the... well... everything =/

I'll be looking for my PES 5 disk... I've seen on this forum that there are still OFs being done for it. Might be time for me to put them to use. And next year, if FIFA is still going forward and PES still going backwards, well, they know where our money'll go =)
 
I have to admit the game ha s many flaws, but there has never been a PES you could have really mastered after 2 days! Usually you need at least a month to get an deep approach to the gameplay.

Maybe I´m a too bad player, but, I can use my midfield quite well, passes doesn´t find the right player in real life, too and I am not dribbling all the time.

I played several games versus a friend and it is much fun. Compared to PES6 the game feels more dynamic and less scripted.

Let´s wait for the online gaming.
 
My way of view is that this pes is the one with most bugs and not so much improvements except the new next-gen engine

Gameplay is still the same as it was in pes6 , with an ability to kill the defence with one cf , middleshots are like 50/50 goal or not , and wtf , where are the old features of pes6

i'm disapointed in this early beggining , but maybe it'll change after some games

and btw , does anybody believe that konami could make some gameplay patches , not only the ones that fix some bugs ...
 
your all treating this as an updated pes6....i think you should treat it as pes1 next gen. when you look back at that, it wasnt very good. But then pes2 came out and it was excellent! I dont agree with some of the things people are saying here. You must not be playing on top player, because i certainly cant run the pitch in a straight line with someone like kaka or adriano on top player.

i personally love this game, and ive played fifa08 on 360, and even though they took the realistic approach, its so sluggish! and no one has any strength. i was running with rooney against xavi, and xavi just breezed by him...that wouldnt happen so easily! At the end of the day they are both inperfect, both have their flaws, but i think overall pes is better, and would of been even better than fifa if they would have kept some of the basic features in from last year, which has perplexed me as to why they got rid of them eg. camera angle swing adjustment (0-9). For the PC version though there will be updates, as i tried to log into the online and it said i had the wrong version and needed the latest update to play online. So maybe some issues will be addressed

Indeed, I now like to play PES08 more than FIFA08 so ;)
 
On the PC absoletely NOT. It's really, really awful. On the next-gen consoles? Maybe. It's getting close.
 
In my opinion, both are shitty titles this year...Wonder why Konami decided to mess things up this year...All they seem to have cared about was the next-gen engine....Nothing more...Ok....I just played the full game....Frame rate has increased....I can play it on my crappy 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200M (Shader Model 2.0)...1280x800...Medium settings and it's playable....There is also an option to disable those replay videos which cause slowdowns in the demo....However, the gameplay is a bit faster than the demo....the commentary is crappy....Sounds like they are bored and the stadium atmosphere is uninspiring...Makes gameplay boring...In my overall opinion....a major setback...Konami are frankly killing the series...In my opinion, they need to change the creative team at the core of PES....Looks like Seabass and co ran out of ideas...Also looks like they didn't listen to the fans and clean up some of the mess in the demo....A major letdown...I've been looking forward to this game all year.
 
Played both titles, been a complete pes fan boy untill now - pes from 5 has been nothing but disappointment. Fifa is progressing, and this year just feels alot nicer then pro evo, some of the passing, and ai's runs are just what you'd expect but never get from pro evo.

this is really disappointing, waited so long, just for them to pretty it up, which i think is it's only selling point,that it really does have amazing graphics.

Team-vision or whatever they've called it, give me a break!, i can't even get my team playing the way i want them to, how can the AI counter that! long passes are just horrible, you can't hit a ball in the air without it travelling the width of the pitch, ball physics is still shocking, don't even get me started on AI runs.

Spot on to be honest.

FIFA is still not great, but there is potential there now.. although is still a rubbish game of football.
 
FIFA only comes a tad close on Next-gen consoles, on Pc is just a rubbish updated fifa 07, not only graphics, but physics and gameplay too, PC FIFA08 won't come anywere near PES2008 this year.
 
FIFA08 on PC is not NEXT GEN the AI and all the rest of the NEXT GEN FIFA08 is on consoles only ... Seen a piece where FIFA fans were asking why the PC version was not NEXT GEN ... Dev said PC's were not powerful enough ( that would have to be outwith the extreme duel and quad core ones)
 
after playing this game for a while now i am getting more used to the fast paced game and liking the game more. i actually like how sometimes it is slow and then the computer speeds up their attack.you can determine the speed of the game also once you get the ball too.

i waiting though to see if konami changes up the pace of the game for the US release.
 
No pes6 is better than fifa 08 on 360 pro evo has got lazy with this years i wouldn't say fifa has caught up at all more that pes6 has fallen behind it's own previous incarnation.

Pes6 is miles better than pes5 just get a decent option file that tweaks the AI kitserver high res kits ad boards stadiums chants crowd reaction fifa commentary patch > pes2008.
