Didn't even realise a new one was penned in but its being released on Friday which is a nice suprise

The first review scores for Shift 2: Unleashed are in and the game’s got three nines and is looking to be a rather solid title.

Sounds like it should be good, its graphics are meant to be State of the Art and do sound very good and the AI sounds brillaint as well in the last preview

shift 2 sounds good need a good racing game in two minds in getting this or tiger on friday

Simbin were behind this is believe. Which gives me hope for a proper racing sim rather than an awful arcade hybrid like GRID.

If you’re a hardcore sim-racer looking for something new to replace perennially entertaining sims like iRacing and rFactor, you might want to just skip this preview and get comfy in your rig until news of Shift 3 comes around. However, for racing fans looking for another fun game to add to the collection, Shift2: Unleashed might be just what you’re looking for.

Had a few races and the game seems very good

The main thing about it is the AI of the other drivers. They are always on your case if your in front, they are hard to overtake if your behind, they are dirty at times and if you make 1 mistake someone will normally overtake you make another and they will pounce again

They make mistakes as well, I have seem crashes in front of me, people taking corners wrong and spinning the car and them braking to late hitting the back of me messing mine and there race up

I am unsure about the graphics though, there definitely not bad but reviews say they are brilliant but to me Dirt 2 has better graphics. Either that or i am just concentrating that much (which is a must if you want to win) i haven't noticed them as much

Looks really good from that vid... tempting!

I know Game is way over priced, but went in at lunch and saw this, WWE, Crysis 2 and Tiger Woods, all at £43. I'm interested in all of them, but thats over £160!!!

Madness.

I'm keeping my money for L.A. Noire next month but it does indeed look like a good racing game. It made me play Racedriver GRID again, which still is an excellent game imo.

I take back what i said about the graphics they are brilliant

Metallic paint actually looks like metallic paint as well which makes cars look amazing

Caved in and got this on the way home (to the list above, add motorstorm at £43! Could have pushed my potential spend to over £200 on games in one day. Doubt there has been a Friday like this in a while).

Anyway, game is very, VERY good. Eases you in slowly which is a bit disappointing at first, but things soon pick up.

It takes a while (if using helmet cam) to orientate yourself. At first, you think the game is understeering, or just plain broke, but when you figure out the camera tilts into the corner, you soon learn how to follow the view and steering becomes second nature.

Love all the xp and auotlog stuff too, works brilliantly like it did in hot pursuit.

I ended up getting it on ps3 as I have the wheel and it works very well with that.

Off for a quick go now!

I already maxed out my Focus and was really enjoying the game until I got to the drifting part. I really really can't drift for shit.

Anyone playing this on the PS3 add me, the autolog thing is a bit shit so far given my 5 PSN friends aren't playing this yet, and probably won't.

I was enjoying it up until I upgraded my Silvia to a C class car to do the next career stuff and it now handles like it's massively overpowered and spins out with basic acceleration with turning. I didn't even fit any of the Turbo upgrades, only added things that should have increased it's handling capabilities.

very tempted to get this on tuesday as i have a £25 gift card for gamestation so will put the rest to buy it,had a chance to buy iy on friday but tiger woods comes first and motorstorm popped through my letterbox via lovefilm today,is it worth it heard problems regarding the lag, hope there are not to much drift events as i cant stand it

The more i play the better it gets the only problem as Jay mentioned is drifting

Its a right pain in the arse and very very hard to do

Couldn't resist picking this up at my local game shop today and I'm glad I bought it!

It's the first time I don't understand the metacritic score being given to a game, it's absolutely stellar. Especially when racing with the helmet cam, thrilling is an understatement.

It's a must buy for everyone who loves racing games.

Couldn't agree more

Enjoying this alot more than i did any Forza

The night tracks are stunning to drive as well

Is this game playable with a controller? Last few racing games that I have played have been very poor when playing with a normal controller, I don't want to invest in a steering wheel.

Sorted out the somewhat dodgy default handling the other day with a setup I use for all cars I've used so far on all tracks as well, which is nice. If I get into a bit more I'm sure I can tweak the setting for individual tracks to suit also. Have to say after that I'm enjoying this immensely.
Apart from the god awful drifting series that is, why on earth do developers change the physics of the car completely for Drifting stuff. The car they give you is so ridiculously overpowered that initiating a "drift" only takes flooring it for a split second rather than gentle acceleration and then the lack of force feedback means you're left with a wheel you can just spin either way freely, resulting in overtuning and spinning out most of the time. :(
Think I managed a score of 400 odd in the first Drifting event, but the winner was 600ish. That'll be lots of hard work if I fancy completing the career completely.

Oh for the DFGT wheel I found the best setup is Steering Lock 450, Accel. and Brake Dead Zone 0%, and then for every car change the steering lock to 28-29, tyre pressure down to 38-42 for front (depending on the starting value, some of them are at 60psi :| ) and then 2-4 lower for the rear tyres. I've not tried lower, but most cars in reality run between 30-35... Buy highest suspension upgrade and stiffen the suspension one or two clicks to the right, and move the spring/bounce rate to 1/2 soft also (one or two clicks to the right each). Save for all tracks and see how that does.

Kamy, I've heard that the controller is actually better for a lot of people, as the default setting do not work well with most wheels. So I dont think you have much to worry about there (thats from xbox users anyway)

I don't have the game yet but that graphical effect where everything goes blurry when you pick up speed looks frickin' awesome. Definitely one for my list.

I love this game - picked it up last weekend and have been playing it continuously since then. A great selection of cars, all with complete works upgrades and a selection of race liveries, and the best selection of tracks in any game to race them on. The game is so immersive, with great AI that is actually challenging. The engine sounds are better than any other console racer as well.

I didn't have high hopes for this game but I'm so impressed. The driving physics may not be on GT5's level but there are plenty of sim elements to this game.

GT5 is pretty much dead to me now. For all it's technical achievements it is dull and lifeless, with terrible AI and no challenge. Went back to it again and switched it off after half and hour. Boring.

There's a patch due any time soon that hopefully fixes a few controller issues with Shift 2, so can't wait for that. Then there is the Legends DLC which I've been unable to download due to PSN.

Amazon are currently selling this for only £25 on XBox. Just ordered a copy...looking forward to some fun.

Agree about both Forza3 & GT5...both insipid, overrated, far from true sim. Lost interest in both within half an hour.

The drifting is fucking appalling. I don't see why all racing games have to include it these days, it's boring.

That aside this game is brilliant. I've just started the GT3 races and they are epic. The game really gets the adrenaline going and assaults all the senses. It's really intense and atmospheric, and as I said above, the car engine sounds are a cut above.

Apparently patch v. 1.02 is on the way which fixes many issues such as steering input lag, force feedback and collisions with AI to name a few. It came out in the states yesterday so hopefully Europe will get it in the coming days.

This is a really great game. Some of the cars are uncontrollable (I don't have a wheel) but there are plenty which are fun. Superb gfx, sounds are good.

Plenty of tracks with plenty of variety, from action packed destruction derbies on the little figure-8 track or go for a long drive round the full-length Nurburgring at night.

Physics is good, head-cam is good, AI is actually good as well.

Career mode is a chore and haven't even tried drifting as I fully expect it to be ludicrous piffle, but simply playing single races is enough for me. Haven't even tried online yet.

All in all, a very pleasant surprise. Easily got £25 worth of playing out if it already.
