It was announced today that Ryan Davis, former Gamespot writer and Giantbomb.com founder, passed away on July 3, 34 years old. I don't think the circumstances have been announced but there is a short note on the Giantbomb website:

As someone who follows Video game culture and news more than I play games, I knew Ryan well, from Giantbomb videos and their awesome podcasts. I was gutted to hear about this, he was just married too.

It just shows we never know when our time is up. We should use it well.

Re: RIP Ryan Davis 1974-2013 :(

I've been following Jeff, Ryan, Vinny and Brad since the Gamespot days. I've listened to every single Bombcast (not to mention all of the ones I've listened to for a second, third or fourth time) since the very first Arrow Pointing Down podcast back in 2008. Giant Bomb is one of my favorite sites and it was absoultely soul-crushing to hear the news. I loved Ryan Davis, hell of a man. Rest easy.

Such a shame. I was never an avid Giantbomb listener but had recently started getting back into it. This is a big shock.

Ryan Davis was a big name in the games media and podcasting world and seemed like a good guy.

R.I.P.

I have been watching the quicklooks for a long time but I'm just recently into the Bombcast, just since the end of last year. But like you I listen to them multiple times, and now I'm going back to nearly the beginning of the podcasts days, and am going to listen to them throughout. It's going to take a while, obviously, which is all the better.

I was following reactions on twitter last night, and so many felt the same way that I did, it was like losing a friend, even if I never met him personally.

Thought he was a lot older than that but he was just a kid. Haven't heard the manner and cause of death but I'm assuming it was his heart. Seemed like a good guy living the dream. Shame.

Spot-on, Isslander. I've myself been and still am a HUGE fan of their podcasts and quicklooks. This is just the biggest heartbreaking tragedy I can remember when it comes to people I've never met whom I felt connected through sharing the same hobby. I'm deeply saddened by this. He seemed to have been a great guy who was loved by everyone, so here's hoping his wife will receive just the same amount of warmth and support to live through this tremendous loss.

R.I.P., Mr. Davis! You will be missed.
