PES 2010: Messi fronts exclusive E3 trailer Konami showcases new visual enhancements and gameplay elements in exclusive footage premiering at Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009
Argentina and FC Barcelona maestro Lionel Messi stars in an all-new trailer as Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH showcases the first incredible footage from its forthcoming PES 2010 title at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles. Every element of PES 2010 is being transformed and improved, as Konami strives to create the most realistic football simulation available. The trailer will be shown for the first time during the June 2nd-4th event in Los Angeles, and is designed to show off the stunning new graphics of PES 2010. The new trailer serves to detail the huge advances the new game enjoys, and major advancements in how it plays. PES 2010’s new visual realism brings the beautiful game to vivid life, with unique skin textures for individual players, and a level of detail that allows users to see the different weaves used in the various kits, their animated faces, and even the hairs on their arms! The game also boasts an all-new dynamic lighting system, wherein shadows are cast in real-time, creating a photo-realistic look to the new game. At the centre of PES 2010, however, is an amazingly close representation of the pace and skill of top-level football. The PES Productions team has worked to recreate the pace and tactical approach of a top-flight game, with mature skill and vision needed to create space and scoring opportunities. No longer can users score soft goals via overly-familiar means, instead PES 2010 counters such play and constantly forces the user to spread the ball around as they would in a real match. To this end, an all-new tactical system has been implemented. A new ‘Power Gauge’ system features an easy-to-use sliding bar system with several categories; half for defence, and the others for attacking play. These allow users to change their overall style of play with ease, and adopt strategies related to support for the player in possession, the space players leave each other, how often players change position, and the pressure put on the opposition when they have the ball. The new footage focuses on PES 2010 cover star, Messi, who fronts the new game having enjoyed an amazingly successful season at FC Barcelona. Fresh from the UEFA Champions League final – football’s premier cup competition and exclusively featured in PES 2010 – the trailer also shows some of the many individual skills the new game attributes to specific players. “I am both a professional footballer and a huge PES fan, and am delighted to again be the front man for such an incredible football title as PES 2010,” commented Messi. “Although it has been a successful one, it has been a long and hard season, and I am looking forward to getting to grips with PES 2010 before the real thing starts again this year!”

PESFAN: "Wow; Lots to digest here. I’ll start with the press release. It’s the usual promotional writing and reiterates the desire of the PES Team to develop the most realistic simulation available, as well as the improved visual elements. The ‘Power Gauge’ is mentioned for the first time in relation to the new strategic elements, and was showcased in the trailer. It’ll be interesting to see just how many elements of the game they can influence, and how much effect each one has on the style of play and behaviour of team mates. These are the various power gauge settings I’ve seen from the trailer. I counted 8 in total but some were never brought to the foreground or didn’t appear in full. Perhaps the Photoshop experts will be able to use their magic to enhance the other ones.

* Defensive Line
* Pressure Level
* Attacking Style
* Position Switch
* Receiving Position

The trailer focuses on what the press release was talking about. Skin textures, facial animations, lighting, power gauges. It’s all there, even an untucked shirt or two! If you pause the video at different stages you can see the shirt creases in different positions, something visible on the screenshots as well. At the end of the trailer is a lovely freeze frame of Messi and Torres, who both feature heavily in this latest batch of media released. I wonder what that could be alluding to… For those disappointed by the length, don’t forget that this trailer is actually longer than last year’s trailer and shows us more of the game as a whole. The screenshots really show off the dynamic lighting, both the night games and the daytime shot of Torres. The last screenshot showing the game between Barcelona and Liverpool almost looks like the sweat is glistening on his forehead as he goes up for the header. Even the background players have a good level of detail to them. The daytime shot of Torres looks a good example of the shadows created by the dynamic lighting. From his neck area where his head casts a shadow over the adidas logo, to his leg and even his boot where the ball casts a small shadow over the outside of his foot. So what do you PES Fans think? Has the trailer lived up to your expectations? Have the screenshots whetted your appetite? Are you about to explode with excitement?"

PES 2010 vs 2009 Graphics Comparison: Has there been much change visually?

pes010.jpg

"After reading through various forums to gather some feedback regarding yesterday's new screenshots, there were a few dissenting voices claiming the game looked exactly the same. Well, I guess footballers will look the same in some regards, but when you compare the screenshots released by Konami for PES 09 and PES 10 side by side, there is quite a difference between them.

When the initial Lionel Messi screenshot was released last month, no one could argue that it was very impressive. This latest batch of shots, the Messi ones again in particular look just as impressive. Let's have a look at those first. On the left is one of the screenshots released yesterday, and on the right is a screen released when the Champions League announcement was made last year.

messicompare.jpg

The most noticeable difference for me is the change in colour palette. One of the art directors has commented on the Konami Blog their experimentation with different filters and palettes, and the effects can be seen here. While I think the final game won't look exactly like the image on the left, the way it's shaping up it will be a big improvement over the visuals in PES 09. Moving on from the filter, you can see big changes in the skin textures and the shirt. The skin seems to have more 'imperfections' leading to a more realistic appearance and moving away from the waxy model look. The shirt, as was picked up on before, looks more life like as if the player is actually wearing the kit as opposed to being stuck on.

It's not just the Barcelona kit and Lionel Messi that has had a makeover. Comparing pictures of the Liverpool kit to last year also shows marked improvement and changes.

livkit.jpg

The screenshot on the left is from the announcement of Liverpool FC being officially licensed. You can see a big difference straight away. The PES 10 shirt displays the new creasing system and shows how the shirt logos move with the shirt naturally and how they are affected by the lighting effects. The quality of the club badges has already been addressed by Konami, saying that they are usually one of the last items to be finalised so no need to worry about that. The collar as well looks sharper and less pixelated. It's a big improvement for me anyway. The captain's armband Gerrard is wearing in another picture still seems to be the same in 2010, it's only a minor point but positionally it doesn't look right.

The improved likeness of Torres has been picked up on by several people, but Konami really have recreated his freckled face rather well! Comparing the screenshot of him running through the Barcelona defence with an actual photo you can see the resemblance. Hopefully Konami look at this and notice the shorts. For me the worst bit of the screenshots was the reappearance of the basketball shorts.

People have also mentioned that the shots released every year seem to be the same situations, but with different players involved. Having a look back to last year and it seems a couple of the screens do look familiar, even a couple of players appear in a similar pose.

Some might think it's lazy, but it gives a good opportunity for those that want to, to compare two similar looking screenshots to gauge just how things have improved visually in the space of less than a year. It's the same graphics engine that has been used in previous years, but for me the time the PES Team has spent tweaking the engine over the past few months has been time well spent. The action screenshots of the games between Liverpool and Barcelona were produced on the 18th May and the Messi pictures were produced a day later, so both the screenshots and the trailer were finalised well before the start of this month and before the now publicised motion capture session held in Barcelona last week.

The Messi pictures were more renders than screenshots, but the Torres screenshot in particular should be seen as a true representation of what PES 2010 will look like."

This 'dynamic lightning' is sick. Graphics are once again excellent. I hope the improvements in the game play will be good as well.

seriously, comparing in-game pics of 09 with trailer pics of 2010 is misleading.

Is misleading to what?!
We can clearly see, that the graphics of PES2010 are better ;]
These are actually in-game pics, not renders like the first Messi photo from PES2010.

how it looks graphically is stunning but when it comes to gameplay, we shall see, although wouldn't be as surprised if was another failure

^^^ Look at the Liverpool kit and tell me how is identical.
The graphic engine is the same, but the lighting and shading system is far far better.

Nask: He/she is the type that says stuff because he wants attention and to cause a bit of trouble, just ignore him/her

And who really cares about graphics nowadays? As so many have already uttered, first fix gameplay and player movement, and then get to graphics. But really ONLY AFTER YOU'VE PERFECTLY FIXED THE OTHER TWO THINGS. Seriously man.

PES graphics are already superior to FIFA graphics, but PES now is nowhere near FIFA. Graphics don;t make or break a game; they just incrementally improve or worsen it.

again big shorts lol :/ looks so ugly ;/
seems like fifa 10 will be better pff

Konami Announce Big Master League News

Konami reveals expanded managerial elements, including new fiscal, sponsorship, and youth team elements

Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has outlined significant advances to the Master League section of its forthcoming PES 2010 title.

Master League has proven one of the key attributes to the PES series' longevity, and PES 2010 will introduce a number of new elements that will contribute to the overall realism and lasting appeal of the new game.

On selecting the Master League option, players are now presented with a menu split into three areas: 'Club House', 'Stadium Walk', and 'Office'. Each of these is an umbrella for different parts of a manager's role, with 'Club House' used for tactical and match day options, 'Stadium Walk' for main game settings, and 'Office' for scouting and player acquisition dealings.

The in-game menus are now much simpler to navigate, and players can jump between the three areas with ease. The Club House element has also seen the creation of an all-new Youth Team section, which works alongside the first team squad. As the game progresses, the player can opt to invest in talented members of their youth team to fast-track their development. This burgeoning talent can then be introduced into the first team, as with so many real-life 'academies.'

The Office area is where all transfer and financial dealings take place. Real currency is now used in PES 2010, and additional monetary routes are also available. Sponsorships can now be negotiated, with player securing big money deals with companies that can be used to invest in the team and youth set-up. Results on field affect the direct value of the club to interested parties, and fan clubs are also used as a barometer of the club's success.

ml04.jpg

A big change of interface it looks like. Out goes the side panel navigation from the last few games for this 'dial' like system. At first glance it looks more organized but I guess how it functions will be the most important bit. Nice to see actual months and currency being used, they're only small things but welcome nonetheless.

The youth team is a great addition in my opinion. Hopefully it will help develop the younger players who aren't quite good enough to play for the first team when they join the squad. Having a quick look down the squad list from the screenshot you can see plenty of familiar names with ML legends Castolo and Minanda still in the game.

The strategy gauges bring new tactical elements to the game, and with these additional managerial elements, as well as more to come, Master League is shaping up to be a much deeper game mode.
