Perfect season for Barcelona, no other club can top it.

Barcelona
Barça, Arsenal, Ajax
We won the Clubs World Cup. 6 major titles in one season. Absolute record and something no one will never top. This is the best team in barcelona's history and possibly the best team ever (only Milan of the 90s and Cruyff's Ajax could really be compared in my oppinion).

So now it's time to celebrate and rejoice ourselves for having the best player of the planet in our team and most important, the best coach I've seen. Guardiola is smart, talented and respectable person, but also a humble coach who ask his stars to work hard and has build a fantasy team where all the players feel as one.

And all this with an always offensive football and lots of homegrown players that are the base of the team: Valdes, Puyol, Pique, Busquets, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Pedro, Bojan, Jeffren... and more to come. Other clubs should definitely take note.

Congrats, Pep. And thank you for this the most wonderful year.

Congrats to Barca. I'm not a fan but I definitely appreciate what they've done for me and all other football fans in the world by providing us with amazing yet effective football. Something you see less and less as years have gone on...

Deservedly the best! Viva La Barca!!!! if that makes sense. :P

I have to say I thought Estudiantes were a much better team tonight and it re-affirms my belief that Latin American football, while not as functional as European football, is the way the game should be played - with passion and youthful enterprise, skill and slick passing play in abundance.

I wonder what all these people who cream themselves over Barca would feel if they regularly watched Liga Argentina football - which is sport at its very best.

Perfect year, not perfect season. A perfect season would be if they did the treble this season to go alongside the World Club Cup, UEFA Super Cup and that other cup thats similar to our Community Shield. Those three were won this season, the La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey were won last season.
Barca could still possibly achieve this but we came the closest last year after reaching the final of the CL, losing the semis of the FA Cup and losing the UEFA Super Cup. So basically we were 4 games short of doing it. And it would have been something Barca can't top cuz we have the Carling Cup here while Spain doesnt have a secondary domestic cup. But that's something I cant really fault Barca for though. :P

What is the point of this thread?
Cause I'm no Barca fan and see no reason to celebrate any of their achievements ... sorry

They stay away :)
I'm not defending this cause i'm a Barcelona fan, cause i've defended other similar threads too. :) What was accomplished here was something that probably won't be repeated soon, given it's never happened before - and i think "yes, it deserves a thread" to remind us/everyone. It's a real event. Would you have been more comfortable if drekkard had used the "they" person instead of "we"?...

RuneEdge, i don't think English teams get to play a local Supercup if they win the double [EPL-FA Cup], do they? Cause if they do an english team would have the chance of winning a "7".
EDIT: They do, i'm sorry :)) Most federations don't.

Too bad for Messi - he came one European Supercup goal short of Pedro's performance.

As for the "perfect season/year" - yeah, i guess the perfect year is the right thing to say, although last night i thought "now THIS is the end of last season!" ... cause all the "consequences" [supercups etc] were gone and in order to achieve any more trophies one would have to win another "real" competition again.

I realise at least you're a fan of that sport called football. Well, then it's first time in history that a team wins all the possible trophies in europe. Ajax did it in the 70s but there was no supercup nor world club cup then, though they would surely have won it.

If you fail to see that this makes history in this sport, then you can't count yourself a football fan. Period.

Pedro, first man to score in every possible competition in europe.

About the season / year discussion, even if it's a different season, those titles count to me as "last season"; I mean, those titles are consequence of the titles won before.

I have to disagree strongly about this. Recently it seems that any team that puts barcelona in danger played well and deserved to win.

Let's see, Estudiantes had 3 chances in the whole match. Their first shot in the game went in and was the only shot in the first half.

Barcelona played poorly the first half but the referee missed a blatant penalty that the keeper did to Xavi.

Aside from this, in the secondth half estudiantes played almost all the time in its own area and had one shot to goal. Barcelona in the secondth half did everything to score, played farily well for a while and did 10 shots on goal. The late equaliser was well deserved and did justice to Barcelona.

Of course, Estudiantes did a good deffensive match and held Barça for a lot of time, which is really difficult currently, but they didn't try to win the match AT ALL. All they did was being lucky in the first goal and defend for the rest of the match - catenaccio style. I reckon they did well, but that doesn't makes them deserving of the win. To deserve a win, in my oppinion, you have to go for the match.

And in the overtime, Barcelona did everything and had clear chances until Messi scored.

About the south-american footballl vs European, I think one match is not enough to evaluate this and in my oppinion in a series of 10 matches, the best european teams would normally win 7-8 of the matches to the best south american teams. It's a matter of money, as always.

Imagine what Guardiola must feel like right now. His first job at Barca and has won every competition he has competed in. And he's only 38 years old.

Simply, Barcelona!
Last season team, was a bomb. Wait until you see the following years team, with an even better Pedrito, a hot prospect Jeffren that will certainly rise to his potential, one hell of a striker called Bojan, an older Piqué (he is only 22 right now), still green but someday Busquets will be an election DMF (im keen on him..) and a matured Messi.
We don't just have the best football in europe, atm, we have, imo, the best prospects for the future as well.
Barca <3 :P

Well, I disagreee a little about Bojan and Busquets. I prefer Toure than "Busi" because tactically and mentally Busquets gets out of the match too often and loose its position too much in defense. Let's hope he matures a little in this aspect.

About Bojan, I stated in another thread I can't see him evolving as a Barcelona player at all. He lacks passing and trapping abilities and in this team you can't just miss that, even if you're a good finisher.

About busquets, i totally agree with you mate, I see no reason for him to be ahead of Yaya atm. Toure is what makes this team stable, Busquets will (maybe) someday fit in Yaya's boots, but atm he isn't fit for the job.

About Bojan, we can't really blame the kid for what he showed thus far, he barelly plays for Barça. I can count the number of times he has played this season. He lacks some stuff but come on, he is only 19 years old, we can't expect a teenager to do what Messi or Ibra does, he will only be fit when he is around his 23/24th, then every1 will see how broken he can turn out. But im pretty sure, Pep and the rest of his crew knows this, so they will certainly keep him and get him to learn with Ibra, Xavi, Messi and so on so he ends up like Iniesta, that throughout the years accomulated teaching of Ronaldinho, Deco and even Xavi.
We have a brilliant future ahead, and in that future, i can see Bojan and Busquets being a part of it.

Well that would be a challenge, what is the best team ever?
Il grande Torino (with father Mazzola)
River Plate in the 40's.
Real Madrid in the 50's (Gento, Di Stefano,...)
Inter Milan in the 60's (with son Mazzola)
Man Utd in the 60's (Charlton, Stiles, Best, Law)
Ajax in the 70's (Cruijff, Neeskens, Muhren, Rep, Haan, Krol)
Bayern Munchen in the 70's (Maier,Beckenbauer, Breitner, Hoeness, Muller)
AC Milan in the 80's (Baresi, Maldini, Donadoni,Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten)
Barcelona in the early 90's (Koeman, Guardiola, Stoichkov, Laudrup, Romario)
Crvena Zvezda in the early 90's ( Belodedici, Prosinecki, Mihajlovic, Savicevic, Pancev)
Man Utd of the late nineties (Schmeichel, Giggs, Keane, Scholes, Beckham, Cantona)
Barcelona in 2008/2009 (Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Henry, Messi, Eto'o).

What do you people think ????

The team that impressed me most was Red Star Belgrade, but the civil was in Yugoslavia killed that team...i also remember Dalglish saying that was the best team he ever saw...i tend to agree although i was also impressed by Ajax, AC Milan and the both Barcelona teams in this list.... (oh and did i forgot a team in my list ?)

I do agree entirely with this list, but I think Ajax 70s, Milan in late 80- early 90s and Barcelona are the most complete teams of all (I'm a lover of the total football idea the dutch patented in the 70s).

They may not be the best, but the ones I would want to watch again and again because of their complete domination of all skills and high doses of fantasy.

I know Germany won the world cup in 1974 (and indeed it was a great team), but to me it's the netherlands who were the best team and who "won" the cup. Having watched all of the matches they played in that world cup makes you a believer.

PS: I would add to the list the unbeaten Arsenal of 2004. That was truly a feat to remember with delightful football and the best footballer of that time, Henry, at his peak.

nah :P only utd fans since they don`t remember 98-99 Treble :)) Beckham won the player of the Year

well he had a busy year in 1999 winning and getting hitched w/ poshie lol hell I thought the world was going to freeze from the 2k bug  tbh I don`t remember too much but w/ football it seems hard to forget some things

congrats to barca!!!! as Sina wrote, u don't have to be a blaugrana to enjoy their success. i'm not a barca fan, i'm not spanish either, yet i was delighted to watch this team playing this season, and i really hope they can build on this succesful season for the upcoming years.

and the one i'm most happy about is definitely guardiola, who is, beyond any doubt, the nicest person in football's world today. i don't care wheter this succesful season should be entirely ascribed to pep's coaching skills or not. i'm just happy that such a nice, classy, polite, modest person is getting this recognition. :))
