Why oh why do Konami set the online play to BEGINNER skill level only ?

It's pathetic. Your players run all over the pitch and lose their positions so easily, your keepers are terrible, and because of lag, it's just too easy to score, and far too hard to defend.

When my friends and I play, we use TOP PLAYER so that your CPU team mates will hold formation much better, and your keepers can actually save shots.

Is it really so??? OMG!!!

I noticed when played online that the players seem to loose their position a lot!
BUT I also noticed a nice thing with just that. I had a couter attack with DM. Alonso and Sissoko (playing with liverpool) and they actually found their way inside the box... but Mr Alonso was all alone with six Gunners closing him down and eventually I got a shot off that Almunia saved... by then Sissoko had made his way back home, but Alonso was way off his position. Then I say F. Torres running like a mad man trying to mark Alonsos man in Gunners midfield! That is rather nice I think.

It isn't Beginner online.

Try Beginner in training mode and see how the keepers behave

Look at the "BEGINNER" selected before the online game starts, and you can't change it.
