Nat Lofthouse has passed away at the age of 85 after battling illness for some considerable time.
He was the prototypical English centre forward, strong as an ox but a devastating finisher with head or foot with 30 international goals in 33 games.
More than anything else he exemplifies what used to be an endearing facet of football a devotion to one club throughout his career ,his native Bolton.
He more than anyone else represented Bolton and was a stalwart throughout the long wilderness years for the famous club and like players of his generation a true gentleman.
The Lion of Vienna will be sorely missed.
