I've hesitated before posting this, but why not.
My son Thomas is 5 years old and last saturday he played his first competitive football match...they won their first match 0-16. and he scored 3 goals.
It's really nice to see these litle ones play football (seems like an anthill around the ball).
Next week he plays his first derby against the other team of our village.

Thomas is the one with the ball...

A proud father.

Congratulations to your son gerd. I also remember my brother and when I was a kid... playing football for local clubs. Good way to make many friends too.

Congratulations Gerd - I hope you haven't given him Mansouri as his role model!

LOL...he's better than that Terry
And thanks to everybody...
He also gave a fantastic assist, but i'm pretty sure that was an accident...
It wasn't a real hattrick and it his 3 goals mean nothing compared to his team mate who scored 9 goals...

Looks like a pro posing on the photo gerd

he really does! :))

u can see by his eyes he can't wait to start playing "com' on u photographer, get away from the pitch! we got a football match to play here!" :D

Huge congrats, my friend. i can't even imagine how u felt when u saw him celebrating his first goal in a competitive match. must have been a breathetaking experience (as any other "first time" of a son, afterall).
:))

Second match, the big village derby: a 14-1 win over the "big team" of our village that plays 4 divisions higher...(in England it would be the second division). Thomas scored two goals...the match was played in a torrent and he clearly did not like that...so he wasn't having any funny until he scored and then all was well again...they have two very good players in their team, the rest (like Thomas) seems average. But at that age the physical aspect is very important.
What is good is that Thomas is the ony one who tries to pass, the bad thing is that he looses every duel where physical contact is involved. We like it: he likes playing, i love watching and even my wife loves it...you should hear her shouting...

PS: if you guys don't mind i will posts follow-ups. I think they have to play 12 matches in a weird kind of cup format...so i will not be doing this for years...

Three goals in his first match, two in his second, star striker material that is. Good luck with him Gerd, who knows how far he'll go.

I miss playing football for a team as a kid. Was with the same team from 4-15 years old and used to love it every Sunday.

Only problem now is, when I play with the occasional match, or with my mates/against people from Uni and such, I can dribble past people and score, whereas I was a Beckham style midfielder as a kid, always wanting to pass and cross, and not try and go past people or shoot.

I could maybe have done something if I'd grown up following Ronaldo or Messi or someone, or maybe I'm just dreaming :P

Well let's not exagerate...there are far better players in his team.
In the first match, one of his friends scored 9 goals...
Normally, today they have to play the other team who won all their matches uptil now...so this should be the big one (it's a sort of round Robin with only four teams) but we have really bad weather...i'm not sure if the match will be played...My wife (a concerned mum) is adamant that "they" should postpone the match..

The match was played between two (minor) snow storms...a 2-5 win without goals from Thomas, but he played his best match yet..he lies sleeping on the couch as i'm making this post...
After 3 of their six matches of this strange round Robin they are leaders now...it's funny, the (tiny) litle club is getting excited...they think these litle boys are rather talented as a team...funny how adult people get caught away by football...they are only kids. My son even thaught that they lost the match because at one stage they were 2-0 down...the only thinghe remebers clear that the GK of the other team denied him a goal on several occasions...

Some pictures from today's match...a 15-1 win.
They have won all their matches and have a stunning goal ratio: 61-4.

Left and in the middle both team officials, the soccer mums...my wife is in the middle...if somebody would have said 3 months ago that she would be acting as a football team official, she would have declared that person insane...but kids and mothers...

Congrats Gerd. I sure he'll get a great career in football.

As i a father myself i have a son 18 months old and cannot wait for the day he plays for his first club.

Well why not an update on this.
Four months later, they keep winning all their matches with big scores.
Sonce a couple of weeks i'm the coach of the team and i absolutely love it.
Last week they had to play a team that also had won all their matches (this is not a league, it's a cup with round robin after round robin from all over Belgium). The big problem was that a couple of kids were sick and they had only 5 players (those matches are played with teams of 5 players and you can substitute as much as you want), the other team had 8 players. Still they won 3-11.
At the end of the match they were all exhausted.
This was on my son 6th birthday and afterwards he had his birthday party were they also played football...he fell asleep at 7 PM.

Normally they are with 9 players and 8 of them are in the same class...it's a pleasure to see them.
Today i went picking up my son at school, class was out and immediately they start playing football.
Currently they ar one round robin away from the final 8 and this in a tournament from all over Belgium. The final round is an elimantion cup at the King Baudouin Stadium (the former Heysel stadium our national stadium) and will be played right before the Belgian Cup final. They are one win (in 4 matches) away from that final. This will be something he'll never forget...
