Just played 3 matches to test this so called improved AI.

In all games I played to score from headers to test whether the AI will react to my style of play. In the 3 games I played on Top Player, to test it at the hardest level. I won 2-1, 3-0, 4-0 all from headers from approx the same position. My tactics didn't change. 5-6 passes then pass to the wing, run down the wing, cross for a header... goal.

You can't seriously believe the AI picked up on this and adapted it's tactics to combat mine.

Konami.. please.. what happened.

Believe it with the convincing wins we've had lately. Ei Ei Ei O. up the football league we go. Anyways, this was with Man U, Italy, Portsmouth.

I have seen it quite a lot. If you go for sliding tackles all the time, the players will slow down and run it around you. This ruins my style of play as i use sliding tackles quite a lot usually.

i see the AI a little random, sometimes plays great, and sometimes not. But is definitively better than the one in PES 6;

Guys the AI was never gonna be much of an improvement on PES6. Its not great but its the best out there which is ashame.

I think it´s a little better than in PES6, but maybe they can´t learn EVERYTHING
Anyway, playing against COM sucks like always did, and I think it will always be that way until Seabass and his "vision" of football are gone of the PES series.

However dont forget that ML AI is much harder than any other form of matches...of course through insane cheating and "im gonna win no matter what" system...

by "vision of seabass" os soccer, do you mean that CPU has to cheat in order to remain competitive? If you meant that way, then I totally agree with you.

Even with average players on REG the ball is stuck to the cpu player(s) using Call defender(s) and have 2 of your players each side of this cpu and another coming up in front, your get a block foot in the ball hits off the cpu players legs and roll back in front of him. I did a replay and seen my players foot on the ball to tackle the cpu player, my players right foot makes the block the ball hit off the cpu players left leg across onto his right leg and it rolls behind my player who stumbles after hitting off the cpu player and steady as a rock the cpu hardly breaking stride moves off with the ball.

Multiply that by xxxx in different ways and and even though you get a block tackle in the ball 99% break back to the cpu player you just tackled or to one of his team mates. On Top Player all you can hear his that horried bumping noise of my players bouncing off the cpu players. While now and again you can get the ball away from the average players the top player or the ones Konami think are top players you may as well get us to losing goals.

Gerrard, very good player.

Outside my penalty box (side) and faced by 3 of my defenders 1st one face to face straight into him , bounced off and on he goes into the box, my 2nd defender was right behind the 1st one, again same result but bounce off and to the side, and same with the 3rd as he Walks into the 6yrd box.

But this sort of thing can apply to even average players the cpu controls, and from Reg to Top Player. The AI even on the cpu team is not great, but the easy with which the cpu players can walk through block tackles the AI doesn't need to be top class. And that is what makes the game harder going from Reg to Top Player not the AI getting smarter, but the ability of the cpu players to walk through tackle after tackle. And as stated before, if you do get a toe in and the ball breaks loose either the player you just tackle gets it back or another cpu player get to it.

And if by chance you do get the ball off them and it runs clear, the slightest bump and the ref gives them a freekick. If seen freekicks given aginst me for beating a cpu player with the ball at my feet. Going across the pitch cpu player inside my player, I am a fraction in front so go to bend the run to cut across his path and get away with the ball. Im in front by a couple of feet and turn across his path, whistle blows freekick to the cpu ....

As for the AI in my team , forget it on the whole its poor. When Im on the ball my team mates in front of me make runs away from my player, which ends up making you carry the ball more or send thoughball in there direction. When on the ball, you other players just about stand in there start formation positions untill you run to them , they don't come looking for the ball or to support you.

It was in PES6 and annoyed my there and its still in 2008, throw the ball out to either RB or LB and make your way up the park out wide. As you go forward you see your wide midfield player just about inside your own half, as you run towards him your shouting at the screen for him to make a run up the line. Most time like PES6 they just stand there you have to pass them and do an about turn back into your own half before they start to make a forward run.

Passing and throughballs are better, but what is missing is smart AI in your team to make anything of it. As I have said as soon as your on the move with the ball there off running forward. As for your players are better with OFFSIDE in 2008 BS! They still running 8 to 10 yards behind the defence time and time again you see it, you have to stop to allow them to run back onside.

Keepers and the parry, parry parry parry parry! This happened with my keeper and I seen the same when my player got past the cpu back 4, cpu player running into the middle of the box, as he gets in and moving forward my keeper (mid goal) moves out to meet him I think, only to see my keeper get to the line of the 6yrd box and move sideway to where he would take a goalkick. When I put one on my own players though on goal I moved into the box the cpu keeper moves off his loen as if to come to close my player down. Keeper gets about 6yrd out and like my keeper turns and run towards the corner of the 6yrd box again like mine leaving the goals gapping.

Think this sums up PES2008, PES3/4/5/6 all for PC I would play anywhere from 1 to 3 hours a day just about everyday of the week, week in week out and onto month in month out until the next version arrived. PES2008, since it came out I've played it about 10 times. my sons who used to play it PES3/4/5/6 all the time too and set up cups and league and play aginst each other have not come near PES2008.

The game does not feel right..

The game lack AI on both sides, where on the whole in PES3/4/5/6 (flawed yes and had there faults) Konami had the cpu team played you they passed and moved, you had to work to close them down and they would do the same. But now I feel Konami have they getting though you with the ball stuck to there feet and if you go get a foot in and the odd time the ball is breaking your way, up pops the ref with a freekick to the cpu.

On AI , the last few game I played I take contol of a player and just stand and watch the cpu team move forward just to see what my AI controlled players do. I can tell you , they do very little. I know its us that is supposed to control the players in our team but it would be nice to see a team mate go make a tackle and close cpu players down instead of backing off and backing off ...

Forget the Frame rate issues and some of the complaints about graphics, if there were no frame rate or graphic issues this game is still not right. I listen to podcasts and read posts, and if they got the Frame rate sort and the graphics they seem to be saying that is all that is wrong with this game. Its not !

Another thing Konami have to sort out is the Control Icon, you have all seen it, a loose ball from a tackle or bad pass and you have a player in the line of path near where the cpu player is going to move forward onto the ball and on up the pitch. You press L1 and you see the control icon jump to one of your other players nowhere near the ball.

Another thing about only 2 players highlighting when you press L1 you are limited to what player you can bring into play, again you can have players close to the ball or cpu player getting the ball and a press of L1 and its not the player you need that highlights under your control. Chasing after cpu players with the ball after a move breaks down L1 L1 L1 L1 L1, and the contol icon is jumping between you 2 forwards "behind" the cpu player with the ball, not in front.

This 2 player only control (L1) is a bugger in defence, when your hitting L1 to get your CB's to highlight when the forward is moving into or towards the middle of the D and your pressing L1 and its your FB'w that the icon is popping up above.

Lack of AI on both sides
Keepers
Superglue dribbling CPU team
Fouls , far to many for nothing more than bumps
Only 2 player icon control (usually 2 nearest the ball)

You need to be able to highlight other players as with FIFA, apart from there 2 player nearest the ball like PES in that you have the option to highlight others in the area.

Crossing
Penalties (need control over them, just now its a lottery where the ball goes)
Headers (still lacking with your players)

I don't seem to be suffering quite as much as you guys, but I certainly have noticed how annoyingly effective the crosses are. On Professional difficulty it was ridiculous - hold L1 & R1 and cross, my striker would nearly always break clear of the defenders, and head it or even smash a volley into the net (the volley happened far too many times to be realistic).

On Top Player I think it's a lot more balanced though - I'll score one or two every few games but nothing too unrealistic. If you think about teams like United, Chelsea, Barcelona, they are dangerous on the wings and score these kind of goals all the time. Remember PES 5 when it was impossible to score from crosses?

However I am annoyed that I need to play on the highest difficulty setting already. I am losing more than I win at the moment, but 2 or 3 months down the line surely I'll be walking it? I struggled on Professional with PES 6.

The stuff about the AI cheating and the ball inevitably deflecting towards the opposing team, I'm sorry guys, but that's called being a sore loser. I am positive that if you ran a study, the ball would deflect to you just as often, and the CPU would make silly runs just as often, but of course you think nothing of those.

As for the Teamvision AI, I'm not quite sure how you would even be able to tell if the AI is learning or not. I guess we'll have to take Konami's word for it.

To be honest I think you are right, the AI in PES 2008 is better than PES6. The more I play it the more I realise. But there are still problems. I thought playing on Top Player with this so called Teamvision would tighten up on my play and challenge me to try different tactics to break their formation. Mind you cutbacks aren't doable anymore, I get mauled by the opposition every time.

I think it's just crosses from the wing and general fast passing, they can't cope.

thats the problem, it is highest difficulty

when you know how it works you can run into every player and push him away, with Ibrahimovic its really easy, but its possible with nearly every player, already crossed the whole field with some goalkeepers, but the finish is the tough part :D

Its exchibition...TRy ML when youre close to the first ranks in your league...There are some matches that you will lose even with 10 Ibraimovices...

But why did they make ML harder than any other mode? Surely you should be able to select the very highest difficulty in all modes?

Are there any higher difficulty levels unlockable in this game?

The AI definitely does learn.

I've taught some of the Hammarby players to speak Spanish, I've taught the Portsmouth team to take my rubbish out on Tuesday's and I've helped the Bordeaux team start up their own wine-making operation, which is nice, although not in Nice.

They don't go round pov houses like yours.

Just wondering what detail level you guys play on...on HIGH detail none of this happens to me. The higher the detail it seems the higher the gameplay experience. Play it on HIGH and see the difference
