Mostly contextual IMO. It used to be mapped to tract/controlled dribbling of PES 5 (press R2 to jump in anticipation of slide). Currently it's a hold down sprint, shake up controller just to eek a little pressure out of buttons near enough to a closing defender, and hopefully should the chips fall in your favor after your opponent commits to the slide, your player 'contextually' should hop over man and ball and can pick up his dribble afterwards. It looks convincing enough when rendered through the game engine. What is your experience like?
