How do you tackle the ball out of players more easily?!

I am playing PES 2009 and its quite fun but the problem is that I can't tackle players, especially online. When they run with the ball near the penalty area they sneak away so easily that I can't stop them or take the ball off them its like the ball sticks to their foot!

I hold down button 2 on gamepad for pressure tackle but the opponent rarely struggles to lose the ball. I manage to only successfully tackle when my opponent walks with the ball or runs but slower. When he runs faster like a cheetah then I can't stop him.
And as soon as he goes to my own penalty box I panic because I know that there's a jeopardy of conceding a goal. So therefore the only real option is to slide tackle the opponent that way its easier to stop my opponent from scoring but the danger of that is if I slide inaccurately and kick my opponents foot it will be a foul, thus a penalty given, this again is not a very good option as I may also get booked and also a danger of getting sent off.

So what is the strategy to stop players more easily when they're near the penalty area
Cos I don't seem to struggle like this on FIFA 09 (PC) its much, much more easier there to tackle the ball off players. But here I find it rather difficult!

i usually just pressure the opponent with x or time a sliding tackle really well. i noticed the cards are much more harsh in pes2009. i've seen a total of 5 red cards only in ths space of 8 games. all of them from 50/50 tackles as well!

Referees are ridiculous in 09, I remember PES 5 was harsh for ref's but omg 09 is just over the top.

Nearly every game you see two yellows resulting in red or straight reds dished out for perfect tackling.

I love a good tackle but it appears Konami have gone all Sepp Blatter on us and abolished contact in PES 09...

It's easier if you hold R1 (or R2 I forget) first to face the attacker, then use X (or tackle button) at the right time to jab in and take the ball.

But by far the best way to take the ball/stop the attack is simply to crowd out the player with X and square, but this has it's risks. You could leave someone unmarked, or the mindless AI pressuring gives away a foul.

Try using both tackling buttons (IN PS= Circle+X) Just watch out for speed variations and believe me, it works so good...

It's a good stategy on PES 09...

don't get in a one on one situation when defending. use the computer press and yourself to crowd the attacker and move him into a direction where you can make an accurate tackle. don't keep holding comp press till the computer controlled player reaches the man with the ball though, because the comp will punish you for doing this by making silly fouls.
I find it most effective to use comp press only to chase after players and never towards them. I let the comp chase up the man with the ball and position myself infront and a little bit to the side of the attacker. if you think you will know how the attacker wil behave you can try a tackle.
