Gameplay Football: a new promising independent game

Today i tried a new independent football game (GAMEPLAY FOOTBALL) and i have to say that it has good prospects for the future.

I've been tired so long with pes and fifa and Gameplay Football it seems to be a good alternative in football games.

Give it a try. The game is in its first steps so don't judge it for the low graphic quality, the absence of faces, real names etc. Just judge the gameplay and feel free to contact with baz (the man behind this game) and suggest corrections and further improvements.

Nice one, Considering it's the first game it seems to look more fluid than PES and animations similar. Will give it a shot tonight.

edit: Seems 1 guy has created all of it. Impressive.

Wow, this has huge potential. The video looks pretty good and if he'll listen to the community, it could end up being the football game we all want.

Would have been great ......in 2001

Looks rigid and old

You managed to miss the word "independent"? That translates into: No resources to make it look as good as PES and FIFA. At least not yet. If the gameplay is good, "someone" may pick it up, give it a budget and make it big.

I was expecting the worst from this but after watching the videos I'm pleasantly surprised. This seems like a great effort for an independent and I think there is genuine potential here. An rfactor model would be best here - create a solid game engine and then release it to the community to add all the content.

You're such a troll...

One man project, no money, yet the gameplay looks nice. It may have not got the graphics, but everything else looks promising. Animations are on par with PES 6 at least when it comes to running/recieving passes/crossing. That looks more solid than PES 2008+ animations!

Can you do better? Show us...

Surprisingly impressive, really like the ball speed and trajectories. Seems like a very good balance from the vids. Although not sure the net fetesjist will like it ;).

Would be really good if we could in some way support the guy as a community, we have enough guys here who love to create assets.

Really surprised, it actually is a pretty good game too. Considering it's just one person, it's so similar to how FIFA and PES play, it really does have huge potential.

If he opened up and got the help of people like Yair to work on stuff like physics, and some of the graphic editors from here, it could blow PES and FIFA away.

Can easily see myself buying it once released.

Can't wait to give this a go once I get my PC built. The more I watch the videos the more I'm astonished that this is one man's work. We hear all these excuses from the PES and FIFA teams about how development is so time and resource intensive these days. They should take a look at this.

Only a few days ago we were talking about a kickstarter for Dino Dini yet this guy has done this all by himself.

This project is awesome and all ONE PERSONS WORK!

I hope this blows up in terms of exposure and more people within the community can help and you never now, this could be special one day.

Any chance this person can join evo-web? So we can all have a little chat/ask questions?

I'd like to know how many of PES' code has he copied/used though.

It's an interesting project and would like to know more.

He'd also have the chance of support from people here if he joins.

Just played this for about an hour. Goddamn im impressed! Plays a lot like a basic version of Pes. What I REALLY liked is the control over long passing, very natural. Hope he keeps developing this. I could see this being an great online game, Xbox live arcade is screaming out for a decent footy game.

THing is this just the beggining...With time and fedback he will keep fine tuning.

Then maybe eventually ad in better gfx etc....could be promising

He is friendly and he likes to listen to the community. I'll mail him and i believe he'll join evo-web. He joined yesterday our greek pes community www.wehellas.gr.

Here is his reply to wehellas

"hello there greece!

i've been secretly following this thread for a while :P but google translate is not very good at translating greek! i think i understand most of it though thanks for all the kind replies and the suggestions!

i've been mailing with flokiman for a while, he's been giving very useful comments. most of the points he mentions are things i know about; it's just that i needed to release the beta at some point, so i know it's not 'complete'! i will fix these things for the final version, that i hope to release at the end of this year. so the obvious things - players missing the ball, quirky goalkeepers, etcetera, don't worry about them

if however you notice things that you think i might not have thought about, please let me know! flokiman already mailed me about things like adding aftertouch and first-touch control, suggestions like that are very useful and i will think about them (i have a PES background myself so especially things that are in FIFA exclusively i might not know about).

it's fine if you keep talking in greek, i will be able to understand most of the translation; but if there is something you feel i should really know about then please address me in english! (or dutch, but that's probably gonna be hard for you lol :P)

on more thing, i will stop releasing updates for the public beta soon, because i need to continue working on the full version. that doesn't mean i'm not implementing your suggestions, on the contrary! i will be busy implementing all your suggestions this year, as well as adding leagues/cups and other things that a full blown football game should have (more teams, tactic sliders etcetera). so keep the suggestions coming!

thanks so much for all the replies, i hope the final version is going to be what you wished for!

Tell him to make the names and teams easy to edit :P

I think it's the FAQ where he mentions that he can't use real names due to licences but the game will be moddable and he expects people to do their own database updates ;)

It's be great if he did join us here, he'd get a good amount of support, advice and assistance.

An indie rival to PES and FIFA? Finally! Yes, please.

I'm really excited about the final version. Remember this is just public beta 0.8. Still loads to work on but already it plays a very good game and the animations are better than PES a lot of the time.

good morning! the game will indeed be moddable, you will be able to edit kits/emblems/teams/names/stats. not sure in what way (built-in editor or external), but i will make sure it is possible. i’m not completely sure what stats i will include, at the moment it’s just a few:
agility (cornering), acceleration, maximum velocity, body balance (staying upright in duels), defending (better man marking), balltechnique (better ‘trapping’ of the ball), dribblevelocity (somewhat the same as agility, but when on the ball), tactics (AI stat) and condition (how fast a player fatigues). (i may be forgetting 1 or 2 stats here)
i will add some more for the final version, not yet sure which ones though! probably also some more ‘mental’ things for AI, for example, if a team get a goal scored against them, they might get more nervous if they have a low ‘coolness’ stat or whatever.. that’d be fun!

...

here i am, reporting for duty! ;)

first of all, thank you for all your replies and suggestions!

i will reply to you guys/gals personally soon, but first i need to set up a forum page where i can write down all suggestions so i won't forget about them, and so people know what suggestions already have been done. i've been getting a lot of mails and suggestions on other forum threads as well, so i need one or two days to organize and recuperate from all sudden attention! i love it, but it caught me a bit off-guard :D

so forgive me for now, i'll be back with some replies to you this week :) thanks so much for all your posts!

Thanks for taking the time to register at Evo-Web. :TU:

You're in the right place for good discussion, suggestions and feedback.

Well done on the project so far and I wish you the best of luck for the future.

Welcome! Love the camera angles on the game :)

Yeah I think it would be fair on him to give him time to compile a list of already made suggestions before we bombard him with 1000 of the same ideas.

Great work bazkie.

Welcome to the forums! First question that comes to my mind: are you planning to add d3d support at some point? OpenGL support seems to be really dodgy on ATI laptop graphic cards, the gameplay is really jerky for me.

And more of a curiosity, are these animations hand made or you purchased mocap files from somewhere? 'Cause they look really good
