FIFA 21 Discussion (Console Versions)

What's the 'competitor mode' like on this or whatever they called it - I need a career mode to play but if it's easy in Ultimate difficulty I won't bother. Does the new setting make them play like FUT opposition?

Yes. Every player doing flip-flaps, dragbacks, roulettes and bicycle kicks. Ping-ponging passes at 100mph. It's nothing close to football. Genuinely disgusting.

Watching some of the tutorials on Instagram with circa 60k likes of how to take a player the whole length of the pitch with ridiculous leg bending skills, to finally get to the box, flip it up and back heel volley from 18 yards.......actually made me ill! I never thought Volta and Fifa street would ever be the full 11 aside version with some of the worse on pitch skating ever seen.......I genuinely can’t believe people buy it.

So glad I've given up playing (modern) football games, done wonders for my well being, and wallet!
Don't think I'll even DL when it hits EA play

I agree with this.

I was getting so wound up with how staged everything seemed, so repetitive and just unsatisfactory that it was affecting my mood.....so just dumped football games altogether. I hope the other game can bring back some sparkle because FIFA’s direction is dead to me.

As soon as FUT really started taking off about 10 years ago you could see this coming, it was only going to gather momentum and now its bastardised the entire product and pretty much the whole genre.

Even with a couple of decent entries in the meantime, notably 16, the series had already taken a totally different direction than the initial promise of 07-10 could have taken it had FUT not happened or been accepted.

Pro Clubs has barely had any attention since then, for me that's certainly where the most legitimate "esports" gameplay could be achieved as well as the most realistic. They even changed their "FIWC" Esports from using preset equal players to just using P2W FUT teams where people have to spend thousands to compete.

On top of that in the last few years especially they've absolutely butchered the AI and gameplay to the laughable extent it's in now and gained a bigger following from people who don't even watch football and have probably never kicked a ball in their life. It might as well be called fast paced generic online action game #464. Shiny, decent netcode and hair physics. What more do you need in a AAA game?

My two hopes for the future of football games - because I can't stop hoping, because I'm a desperate idiot - are...

A) PES 2022 being made from scratch may be the perfect time for them to decide to make a totally different game from FIFA (instead of trying to clone it all the time), and focus on sim-heads, given their roots... and

B) FIFA have mentioned "simulation" recently - but... In the form of mobile games. That was one of the most intriguing bits of news from EA I've heard in recent years. BUT - I think they mean a "manager" game. For more on that, see below:

What. The. Actual...

Eurogamer - FIFA to make six mobile games, ranging from simulation to arcade

Maybe by "simulation" they're referring to the current standard FIFA, which is a million miles from a simulation.

But if they're deliberately making a more sim-focused game, and then limiting it to a mobile phone... What the hell are they thinking? Have they ever met your average mobile gamer? When do they have time to play a simulation?

Or by "simulation" do they mean some kind of dumbed-down football management game?

Yeah it's a sad road taken by EA, they managed to screw up their Basketball franchise NBA Live as well, great games up til -10 then declining and now abandoned.

Still enjoy FIFA 16/17,and I don't mind playing old roster either.
It's a good move removing bad stuff from your life, like Fifa 21 etc

A third possibility could be a proper crackdown on lootboxes by the UK and the EU. Things seem to have gone quiet on that front after the call for evidence from the UK government last year, which I hope plenty of people participated in... It says they're "analysing" the feedback now;
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/loot-boxes-in-video-games-call-for-evidence

Classing it as gambling and making the game (or at least FUT) 18+ with same restrictions and ID verification as online casinos/bookies could either end/change FUT style modes or force it to splinter off as a seperate product.

The stricter any legislation the better, a full on ban of lootboxes (and any/all other gambling products) to completely cripple these modes would be perfect.

People (younger person's) don't want a 0-0 game in rain between two lower league teams, they want glitzy PL/CL action, preferably in a concentrated version, not a full 90 min game but in a 5 min highlight package,to them (and a lot of others) football is TV entertainment, not a bus ride 4-8 hours away to a shitty ground, horrible weather, watered down beer etc.
That's reflected in games as well.
A SIM football won't be made from any of the big companies, unless that's the fashionable thing/cash cow for them.
Putting hope in konami or/and EA ,especially since neither of them has made a proper game in 4-5 years (not sure on Pes 21 since I don't play it) is not realistic IMO.
Sadly!

Thanks - think I'll stay away from FIFA then. Glad I didn't waste money on it this (last) year.

Let's hope FIFA 22 and PES 2022 are vastly improved over the dross EA and Konami served up yet again this (last) gen.

Hi Rock nice to see you!

You're 100% correct. I was listening to a podcast few days ago and Rio Ferdinand was on it talking about how the modern day/younger football fan doesn't even watch the match now, they prefer short highlights on YouTube of the goals.

The landscape has drastically changed - big publishers won't consider a few older people's thoughts and views. There aren't enough of us to make a difference. Forget football gaming full stop now - if you're looking for a realistic, single player experience anyway.

I get no fun from the modern football games and haven't done for a long time. It's over, basically. Which is fine - because it was actually holding me back from playing other video games. I've played some really innovative and interesting games over the last few months due to lockdown and because I'm not wasting my time editing a f**king terrible football game for weeks on end, or messing around with sliders to try and make the game playable (sorry but sliders never make enough of a difference, at it's core - FIFA is broke, no sliders can change that.)

Hey Mikhail, long time no see, hope you're ok mate!

I think football games and football go hand in hand when it comes to trends and how people watch/play it/them.
We're in a situation were sim games are non existing,it's non profitable when it comes to making one for FIFA /Pes.

I'm not editing Pes for a week either, to be able to play it,I'm still ok doing it on older games still (our beloved Pes 13) and fifas sliders just make a non proper football experience less dreadful, and not good/great.
If FIFA went the 2k way (they've always had a strong sim option in their games regardless on how "arcadey" the rest is) then we'd have hope.

And you're right,I'm feeling quite "free" not playing Pes/FIFA,not being pissed off, more time to play other great games instead.
I've gone knee deep in to Skyrim, feels great to play games that gives you joy when playing instead of frustration.
If I want to have the occasional game of football,FIFA 15-16-17 or/and Pes 13/17 is still around and installed on my hard drive.

Seeing what I saw in here like a year ago,or to be honest every year, "next gen will be great ...can't wait"
Or "hopefully next FIFA will be great"
That's just sticking your head in the sand, nothing, and I mean nothing says "the next fifa will be better" will be better.
It's been declining and going downhill since at least FIFA 18,and extremely fast with 20 and 21.
We dinosaurs are fucked mate.
Better download tik tok and get with the program:)
Nice hearing from you again pal!

FIFA 21 NEXTGEN on FUMA is great! Not perfect but very enjoyable.
With some good sliders, I think a lot of people could like it.
Finale Champion's league : OM Vs United - FUMA - Legend - sliders

Other match

An Electronic Arts internal document regarding FIFA 21 that was leaked to the CBC has explicitly stated the publisher's goal of pushing players toward its loot box-driven FIFA Ultimate Team game mode.

The 54-page document, which was provided to the news outlet by a "gaming insider," addresses the game's performance so far and lays out the publisher's plans going forward.

On a page of the document titled "Five Things You Need to Know," the third point emphasizes that players will be "incentivized to convert" throughout the summer, while the fourth point states "FUT is the cornerstone and we are doing everything we can to drive players there."
In another page titled "Turning Up the Heat," the company says "All roads lead to FUT" and lays out a strategy to "drive excitement and funnel players towards FUT from other modes."

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/artic...-says-fifa-21-is-driving-people-to-loot-boxes

I'm shocked, who would have thought.

Is n't it obvious? I am screaming since 2018 that in both games, the decline/regress of offline modes is intentional, in order to force you to join FuT, MyClub.

Me only , i know 2 people at personal that were devoted ML/CM players and tried MyClub/FuT in the first month of PES 2019, when the game was unplayable due to AI "glitch" of spamming side low crosses.

I mean , it is not even sneaky or evil anymore, just a norm. The one set of modes (online/loot/microtransx) gets new content every year, tons of new information, while the other set of game modes (offline/couch pvp/online-offline Coop CM/ML) gets only little additions or shitty additions that most devoted players know that they are not trully "new features" but recycled ones, been removed in the past for no reason.

For me both companies play a smart patience chess game. By throwing moslty shite every year, they challenge offline player's patience, basically not only CM/ML players, but couch VS too, online divisions/seasons, whatever, any other mode except for the LOOT/Gambling modes.

Pushing players in the silent dilema, give up or try MC/FuT... Even if one player convers from another mode to those to, it is considered a first success.

The complete success model, is to be part of it and spend money in in-game currency.
