When Mr and Mrs Brown married, the sum of their ages was 44. The difference between their ages was one sixth of their ages 10 years before their marriage. How old were Mr and Mrs Brown when they married?
Ten years before the marriage they both were 10 years younger, so the sum was 24. 24/6=4 is the difference. From the half of the sum 44/2=22, add 2 for one person and subtract 2 for the other person. The age difference doesn't change through the years, so you can do the same with the sum 10 years before (24/2=12, 10 and 14 years old).
