Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

Hodgson: "Now, I will call Steven here and he will show you how you should not slip in an decisive game"

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

He's going to play Rooney on the left-wing to give him match-fitness.....
and Milner as right-back....dear oh dear.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

I think he's trying too much to be tactical. As Scholes said earlier, Rooney is a striker, he should be an out and out striker and focus on scoring for England. Stop playing him in weird positions, yet expect him to score.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

Sterling came in with a strechted leg, he didn't make full contact but it angered Valencia and he grabbed Sterling by the throat.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

damn i thought something happend to Raheem already as i saw Valencia and Sterling getting red..

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

To be fair, 10 mins to go in the last friendly before the world cup and you go in with a leg breaker? I'd be pissed too. Worth pointing out that is more emotion than Valencia has shown. Ever.

Stupid challenge, could've been another broken leg for Valencia.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

Miami at 3pm ! is extremely hot in fact its the hottest point of the day. Jack should of saw red too, he hit Valencia after he choked Sterling ... that look a tad bit pornish

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

DIdn't think Valencia warranted a red at all, stupid challenge from Sterling.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

Antonio Valencia ‏@7AntoV 48m
I apologize to the country, my teammates, the coaching staff for the expulsion of today. But most importantly, I'm fine.

It's not the worst challenge I've ever seen, obviously, but if you think that's good play 9 minutes before a world cup in a friendly in a completely unthreatening situation...you don't know how professionals think.

If Valencia doesn't get off the ground here, he breaks his ankle (again). For what? A f*cking throw in, in a friendly. That's why it's ridiculous from Sterling.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

raheem sterling, bless him, it looked like to me he was trying too hard to impress and got a bit excited, made a reckless tackle and probably deserved red but so did a. valencia, you cant go puttin your hands to someone throat, twice.. ref got both right.

milner had a horrid game, mainly his fault for both ecuador goals, giving so much room to them inviting them to score, he cant play RB and he cant really play CM either, hope the ox injury isnt serious, gruezo is massive twat rolling around like he did, feigning does me fucking head in and now the ox could be out because of it, and rickie lambert scores again what a strike, fucking av it!!

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

That sucks so much, he was excellent yesterday, England's best player til he was hurt.

So hard to make that decisions too - if it's a tiny tear or even strain, do you play through the world cup and risk your season? Or do you skip a World Cup?

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

ye for sure he was class, it looks like roy gonna wait until 24 hours before 1st game to decide if he fit enough for the squad, i don't see the point taking him out of the squad even if he only fit enough for the final group game, he was most probably not gonna start the first group game vs italy anyway..

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

Might just have been the longest game ive ever seen, was terrible. looked much better with Wilshere and Barkley in midfield, I would play Rooney as the CF.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

  I know! but Milner is a neccesary evil compared to Johnson whose atrocious defensively and doesn't really contribute with assists or goals going forward.

EDIT: Didnt Ashley Cole once play RB to face Messi? If so Woy should have experimented with him at RB.

Re: England Thread - Youth it is!

BWahahahaha.

Where'd all the right backs go ffs? So many talented left backs around, and no right backs! Makes you almost appreciate Gary!

There is an explanation for that.
Most right backs are reformed CB's that turned out not to be big enough. Nowadays a very good CB needs to be around 1,85 metre of height.

Hunderds of youth products who are trained to become CB are not big enough and are reformed to RB.

Why are there more very good LB's. The answer is obvious:most LB's are left footed and left footed players are used as LB or LMF from a very young age. They play these positions for ten or more years when they play for the first team. Most RB's ar only playing a couple of years in that position when they are 18 years old.

Nowadays you can do a ( very expensive test) to predict the height of young boys. The problem with that is that the test is too expensive at grass roots level.
Big clubs can afford that test for their academies, but often the players are by that time too old to be trained as "real" RB's...

So it is simple: the talent reservoir for RB is much smaller than for all the other positions on the pitch. It is only logical that that is often the xeakest position in a team.

Dani Alves is a splendid example: he is a reformed forward or MF. He is fantastic going forwward, but defensively he has weaknesses.
