I'm torn between getting my 12 year old son an Electronic Drum kit, or a PS3 for Xmas. They both come in at the around 300 notes, so no issue on cash. I have a 360, and an HD TV, so I can use the console. I love playing the drums, and gaming, so I'll use both as well.

Any opinions.......

:lmao: How about what your son actually wants? ;) Nah fuck that, what will you use more :D

Gotta be the drum kit! Though you could get some drumsticks and just bash the PS3, that would be good :)

well i'd say the drum kit since you've 360 because ps3 still has some time for a price-drop and better titles to come by late 2008.

He's mentioned both. I am concerned that the drums will be a bit of a novelty, and wont get much use after January, but with no real humdinger games for PS3, that could be the same......thnx tho

PS3 will be good over the next year or so.

Drums will probably only be for Xmas and not for life.

Its a tough call mate but I would go PS3 as I would hate the constant sound of drumming and would want to kill after about half hour of listening to it

Get the drum kit!

I used to play drums in two bands - I wasn't very good and the two bands weren't either. But we did quite a few gigs and I had a great time :) It was so much fun.

The electric kit you can plug ear phones aswell, so it won't be really loud all the time.

When I have kids I am going to suggest to them playing instruments as soon as possible, as that is something I regret not learning from a young age. I am starting to learn the acoustic guitar now :)

Where are Tobi and ThomasGoal when you need them? (the PS3 defenders?) I could just see it now... the Drum Kit doesnt have bluetooth or Blu Ray... or a connection to the PlayStation Store! and you cant play Gran Shiturismo on it!

Seriously, drums are not that loud at all! Ive been playing for some years now, and there haven't been any complains from the neighbours at all. Neither, have I ever covered my ears while playing. You could get an electric kit, but the feel you get from an acoustic is something else :)

Nothing compares to well tuned acoustic set :p Anyways, most of the Roland kits Ive liked are near the 1000$ mark.

Thanks Guys - I told you there were no lasses, and even if there were what cahnce have you got of them knowing about drums and PS3s.....?

I think I'm going for the PS3 - I'm convinced the drums will be a fad, and the wireless online gaming will be good for him and me. I'm not online with the 360 as I'm too tight to buy a wireless adapter or hard drive - they're just ridiculous money for what they are.....

Anyway - thanks for your inputs - i'll let you know if he's happy with it.

Ooh, so does anyone know of a good bundle deal? Argos give you 35 quid off if you buy a game (inc resistance) and a mad kats accesory pack which has a controller, stand, play and charge and hdmi in it, so that's favourite at the moment. He wants Ratchet and Clank, but we have PES and Rainbow 6 etc for the 360.

quick update on this for those who give a monkeys.....

Both my son and I are hopelessly, head over heels in love with the PS3.

I've had a 360 for 2 years now, and I thought it was good, but the PS3 is divine. XMB beats dashboard for my money, and the demos I've dl'd are great.

I'm not online with the 360, so that may be clouding my judgement, but I guess I'll always be a Sony fanboy at heart.......until M$ stop charging extortionate prices for the add ons - 50 quid for a wireless adapter, another 50 for a poxy 20gb HDD - I just won't pay it.....
