changing the messages you can send online?

i saw a guy today online who had i assume changed his messages ( the ones where you say Nice shot! or Hahahahaha! etc) and had put a smiley face in his along with other messages. Can anyone tell me how he customised his messages?

In the online menu. But you cant type them yourself, you can choose only from presets.
