Catalunya -Argentina

uribcn

Non-League
1 November 2007
This amazing match will be played in May in Barcelona, Camp Nou maybe

We'll play against Argentina and I think it will be a great match.

Will be as always.. a easy victory for argentina xD.. i remenber the last win vs catalunya of argentina and brazil xD

PD: why all the spanish are soooo divided??, its no sence..

Catalonia = Cataluña (Spanish) = Catalunya (Catalan)

There are regional teams in Spain that play against each other or against other teams twice a year some friendly matches, but they are not official FIFA teams.

Lately there's too much politics involved in sports in Spain, some parties are using sports to support their nationalist cause and that cannot but hurt the sports themselves.

We are not "sooo divided", it's just a couple of regions where nationalism politics is spreading into sports... sadly.

You wish.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catalonia
Catalonia (Catalan: Catalunya; Aranese Occitan: Catalonha; Spanish: Cataluña), is an Autonomous Community in the Kingdom of Spain.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland
Scotland (Gaelic: Alba) is a nation in northwest Europe and one of the four constituent countries[5] of the United Kingdom.

;)

No matter how much you wish it, that is simply not true.

:shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock::shock:

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Scotland have a league with Rangers, Celtic, Hibernian, Dundee, Hearts, etc... And his teams go to Champions League or UEFA Cup.

Where is the caltalonian league?

Barça, Espanyol, Nastic, Mataró, San Cugat....?????

When Catalonia have a private league, and Barça, Espanyol, etc can't play in Spanish league, this is the moment than Catalonia Football Team will be official. Now is impossible.

your basing your facts on what it says in wikipedia when its a fact wiki is not official, heck if i was sad enough i could go and edit that post to say that spain is a region in catalonia. would you believe wiki then????

well thats complete bollocks because wales have their own league yet 3 of their biggest cities, including their capital, all play their football in england. gretna who are in the scottish premier league were actually playing in the english leagues not so long ago and theres also been talks for the past god knows how long about celtic and rangers playing in the english premiership, of course that will probably never happen, but you get the point

What the hell kind of an argument is that ???

He said Catalunya is a nation inside Spain, which is not officially accepted, so you're point makes absolutely no sense.
Or are you trying to say that the fact the nation under whichs banner Catalunya is forced to exist does not allow it an own football league OFFICIALLY makes the region a part of Spain?

"Where is the Catalunyan league" ...
God, let it rain brains!!!

Sorry, but Catalunya is an autonomous community of Spain, like Aragón, Asturias or Extremadura.

And historically, Catalunya was a part of the Crown of Aragón.

The Catalan Nation has never existed nor exists.

I think Argentina will win this match. The team is too strong, Argentina can make 10 full teams and each one will have a chance to win against any other team. There is not a better country on earth for creating talented footballers. You know these players like Messi, Tevez, Mascherano, Galetti, Maxi, there are so many younger players in Argentina who have the potential to be even better playing at loads of clubs like Lanus, Racing, San Lorenzo, it's amazing.

:-k i see..
can u edit the spanish constitution too?
coz if u were able to edit the constitution of 1978 so that catalunya is not an autonomous community of Spain... well then i could believe it

or maybe the spanish constitution too is not enough "official"

 Well said. :)

FYI, Catalonia is not "forced to exist" under any banner. There is an independentist minority within Catalan society that might feel that way, the same way there are republicans that don't like having a King. But the vast majority of the Catalan people supported this Constitution of 1978. More than 90% of the voters approved the text. (You can verify this data reading the BOE - Official Bulletin of the State, date Dec-22 1978.

The facts are:

- Spain is one, indivisible country and the Spanish nation declared so under the 1978 Constitution, and well before under the 1812 Constitution.

- Catalonia has NEVER been a country itself. It was long a county (note I wrote county as in "count", not country) part of the Kingdom of Aragon, until its union with the Kingdom of Castile more than 500 ago in the formal creation of Spain.

- There is not such a thing as a Catalan nation, as there is not such a thing as a Madrid nation, an Andalusian nation or a Castilian nation. There is the Spanish nation, that declared its constitution back in 1978, built with the efforts and work of ALL Spanish regions and people. What is there is a feeling of identity and nation in some Catalan people, as recognized in their Autonomous Community statutes, which, BTW, declare on its very FIRST line, how Catalonia is an Autonomous Community as declared in the Spanish Constitution.

All this said, there is a Catalan team, as well as a team for each and every other region in Spain. They represent their regions, play accordingly in games that involve that kind of representation, and are of course not recognized by FIFA as national teams, the same way that the team of my city is not recognized by FIFA as an official national team, no matter how much my city might feel they are different, consider ourselves as a nation or whatever other feeling we might have.

Even if these days it doesn't seem to matter much, the fact is that reality some times still matters, and national teams need to represent nations. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland represent an exception being non-sovereign entities that are recognized by FIFA because of their Home Nation -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Nations- status. Again, they are constituent countries of an United Kingdom. They are not regions.

To me, this info is quite accurate, no matter how official Wikipedia might not be. As a matter of fact, it surely will be well more accurate than any source that you might provide that states how Catalonia is a country or a nation.

;)

And of course Argentina would take a beating on Catalonia (or on Spain, for that matter) any day of the week.

Just to throw a spanner in the works where do you see the Basque Country fit into this type of debate? Have they got the right to become there own nation?

I don't know what to think, where do we stop moving borders and creating nations. In the last century a lot of nations have came and gone. The borders have been moved back and forth.

my point was that hes using wikipedia as his facts. i never once said it wasnt an "autonomous community". if youre going to use evidence to back up your claims try using FACTUAL sources. and using the fact the scotland has club teams and is therefore allowed a national team is like i said before... bollocks

If someone like Puyol is capped for Spain, how was he able to play for Catalunya if we were to assume its also a nation?
