Deron Williams Signs With Besiktas, Announces It On Twitter

Deron Williams Signs With Besiktas, Announces It On Twitter

This is the brave new world we're in. Though it was all but a foregone conclusion Deron Williams would sign with Besiktas of Turkey to keep busy during the NBA lockout, no contracts had been signed. There was still i's to dot, t's to cross and a few things to finalize before the move was made official. There was still a chance, however unlikely, that the deal could've fell through.

But now, Williams' signing is official and he announced it himself. And he did so on Twitter, in his first tweet from a new account, sent straight to Chris Broussard. It was an odd sight, but here we are.

The link is a photo of the signed contract, submitted into evidence as proof that Williams wasn't messing around. You can find the picture below.

While it's not exactly huge breaking news that Williams is headed overseas, it is interesting that he decided to announce it officially by tweeting a picture of the contract. I'm not sure I've ever seen this, but am wondering if it's about to become a trend. If so, the Twitter world is going to be awesome during the NFL free agency frenzy of 2011.

Besiktas takes second place in Spanish tournament

The Black Eagles ended the three-team tournament in Granada, Spain in second place last night.

They went out to defeat Atletico Madrid 1-0 in their opener with the lone goal coming from Fabian Ernst at the 27th-minute mark but lost to Granada CF on penalty kicks following a goalless draw.

Coach Ataman’s views on Deron Williams

Besiktas JK Men’s Basketball Head Coach Ergin Ataman analyzed recently acquired NBA star Deron Williams for Besiktas TV.

medya.php

“All critics agree he is the best NBA player ever to play in Turkey. Having a 27-year-old All-Star with 20 points and 5 assists per game average on our lineup will definitely boost our team. The contract negotiations lasted more than 15 days, but thanks to contributions by Chairman Yildirim Demiroren, we’ve managed to sign him in the end. He is going to be with us until the NBA lockout is fully over. There are other NBA All-Stars, who have shown desire playing for us along side Williams. One of them is legendary Kobe Bryant, but we need a sponsor to bring him in here. Kobe Bryant in Turkey? Wouldn’t it be a sensation? This shows how great club we are.”

Besiktas 5 – 1 Maccabi Tel Aviv

The Black Eagles recorded a 5 -1 victory against Maccabi Tel Aviv in their Europa League Group E opener tonight.

Backed by a sell-out home crowd, Besiktas started the game with a great pace, putting themselves in the lead just after 2 minutes. Almedia gathered a long ball from Aurelio, broke clear into box and chipped it home over the rushing Maccabi goalkeeper. The Portuguese centre-forward wasn’t done yet as he doubled the score with a 27th-minute header after a perfect cross from Quaresma. The rest of the first half was uneventful as the Black Eagles took their two goal advantage into the break.

At the 48th-minute mark, the Israeli visitors pulled one back through Kehat’s header, which temporarily silenced the boisterous home crowd. But the goals just kept coming for Besiktas as Aurelio headed home Quaresma’s brilliant cross from the left flank to make it 3-1 for the home side after 50 minutes. Two minutes later, defender Egemen followed him with another on-target header, finding the top corner of the net. Substitute Edu, who replaced injured Quaresma in the 59th minute, closed the curtain with a low drive three minutes from full time as the Black Eagles ran out 5-1 victors.

Defender Egemen Korkmaz marked his 28th birthday with a winning goal, rising to head past Olexander Shovkovskiy and put his side second in Group E.

Egemen Korkmaz turned his birthday into a party for all Beşiktaş JK fans, as his powerful 66th-minuteheader lifted the Black Eagles above FC Dynamo Kyiv and into the qualifying places in UEFA Europa League Group E.

Centre-back Egemen marked his 28th birthday by getting his head to a Simão corner and powering into the Dynamo net as the Istanbul side gained a modicum of revenge for their elimination from this competition by the same opponents last season. However, they lived on their nerves in the closing stages despite a typically vocal backing at the BJK İnönü Stadyumu.

There was little to choose between the sides in the opening period, though in terms of chances, it was the home side who were on top. Hugo Almeida might have put Beşiktaş in front in the 11th minute, as he timed his run perfectly to meet a Roberto Hilbert cross, but his header did not find its target. Olexandr Shovkovskiy then prevented a Dynamo disaster, fending away a Yevhen Khacheridi deflection from Ricardo Quaresma's searching ball.
The goalkeeper had to stop Mehmet Aurélio's shot soon afterwards and Quaresma might have done better with his boot when he elected to have a go with his head ten minutes from the break.

Beşiktaş showed plenty of patient endeavour after the break as they looked to pass their way to success, but the goal when it came was a little less elegant, Egemen surging in to nod past Shovkovskiy from a corner. Carlos Carvalhal's men created enough chances to kill the game off, but mindful of Dynamo's penchant for added-time goals, Beşiktaş were mightily relieved when the final whistle finally came.

Besiktas 3 – 1 Stoke City

Black Eagles secure top spot in Europa League Group E with a well-deserved home win

news_image_1323895155_4da3ede51e6ddab969b870f0df24fd3f396607.jpg

Determined to win their final group match at all costs, Besiktaş started brightly and pepperedStokeCitykeeper Begovic with long-range efforts early on but failed to find net. Ironically, it was the visitors who would get on the scoresheet first. Fuller’s deflected shot caught keeper Rüştü flat footed on 30 minutes and put Stoke a goal up. The Jamaican almost scored his second two minutes later, but defender Egemen cleared his ball just off the goal line. The English team seemed more than happy to take a one-goal lead into the intermission.

Desperately needing an equaliser, the Eagles came out the more aggressive side in the second half while Stoke looked contend to sit back. Home side’s pressure paid off handsomely in the 57th-minute when referee showed the penalty spot after their striker Almedia was brought down inside the box by Upson. WhileStokeCitydefender was heading to early showers with a red card, Fernandes levelled the scores. The goal and a man advantage appeared to turn the game completely in favour of Beşiktaş as they went 2-1 head after 75 minutes through sub Mustafa Pektemek, who beat Begovic with a diving header. But Beşiktaş were not done yet until another sub Edu smashed home a left-footed effort from inside the box with 8 minutes remaining to secure his team’s victory. With the win, Black Eagles progressed to the next round as group leaders.

Besiktas head into second leg with advantage

Black Eagles defeat Braga 2-0 in the first-leg of Europa League Round of 32

Visitors Beşiktaş started the game positively and had two early chances with Quaresma, but the Portuguese forward failed to convert them. They got a break on 29 minutes when Barbosa received his second yellow and leftBragaa man short. It took the Eagles 7 minutes to capitilise on their extra man advantage as Sivok’s header off a Fernandes’ corner-kick gave them a one-goal lead, which would stand at the intermission.
Playing with more confidence, Beşiktaş added a second goal through Simao after 58 minutes, but refused to slow down and kept the pressure on for the remainder of the match to secure a two-goal advantage for the second leg.

Fantastic stadium. Turkey is undergoing a modernisation process in terms of stadia.

Re: Besiktas JK Thread (The Black Eagles)

Beşiktaş back on winning ways with 3-2 win against Bursaspor

Playing their first-ever home match at the newly-opened Vodafone Arena, the Black Eagles started as the better side and went ahead with a 22nd-minute Mario Gomez solo effort, only to see the visitors levelled the matters through Traore six minutes later. Beşiktaş tried to regain the lead in the remainder of the first half, but all their efforts were in vain.

Determined to win at all costs, Beşiktaş jumped back in front again on Alexis Delgado’s header after 53 minutes before Mario Gomez scored his 21st goal of the season. Bursaspor showed they were no push-overs with a goal from substitute Stoch to make it 3-2 in the 70th-minute, but it was not enough to turn the game around as the Black Eagles picked up all three points and secured their place at the top of the table.

Re: Besiktas JK Thread (The Black Eagles)

We are the 2015/16 Super League Champions!

The Black Eagles’ seven-season-long Super League title drought came to end at the Vodafone Arena tonight. Needing only a draw to claim the Turkish football’s top honours, the Black and Whites started extremely cautious at the back, but still back-to-back goals from the centre-back Marcelo Guedes gave them a two-goal cushion going into the break. Mario Gomez netted his league-leading 25th goal on 48 minutes, and the visitors pulled one back through Webo at the 74th-minute mark. However, Beşiktaş refused to give away any further ground to run out as the 2015/16 Super League Champions.

Beşiktaş JK’s road to Turkish Super League title

The determined and resilient Black Eagles, who did not have a regular home ground during most of the season due to the construction of their new stadium Vodafone Arena, achieved the impossible in the end by winning the 2015/16 Super League title, against all odds and with a game at hand. It was their 14th League Championship and first in seven seasons.

Powered by a prolific up-front and midfield, they led the League in scoring while their defence looked solid throughout the season. Following a thrilling title-race with Fenerbahçe,which saw first place change hands several times, Beşiktaş entered the final two matches of the Super League campaign 6 points ahead of their arch-rivals. And then Şenol Güneş’ men did not repeat the slip-ups of the previous seasons and went on to clinch the national Championship title after a well-deserved 3-1 victory over the visitors Osmanlıspor.

Eagles’ boss Şenol Güneş delighted after winning Super League title
‘Despite playing away from home nearly the entire season, we showed real character and reached our goal at the end. I am simply delighted and honoured to be part of this long-awaited glory. Believe me, it has not been easy, so I want to thank our players, coaches, supporters and the club administration for the strength they've given us throughout the season.’
