Battlefield 2042 has been announced for all systems.

Maps will now be up to 128 players on PC/PS5/XBSX
Maps will be 64 players on PS4/XBO

The downside being an EA game.
There is going to be 4 game passes released in the first year of release.
These will all be chargeable content, unless you buy the £100 Ultimate Edition at launch.

EA are using freemium tactics on a full price AAA title.
Ideally there should be a boycott against EA, but I am sure this will be one of the biggest selling games of the year and EA will then be laughing all the way to the bank when they release the 4 packs at £20-£25 each and make an additional £100 out of every player for releasing an unfinished game.

Yeah, I've just read in the Eurogamer preview that you have "specialists" now rather than classes, and that more are being added via the Premium Pass. So if you don't cough up £100, you may end up at a disadvantage by Christmas when everyone else is the new "flamethrower specialist" or whatever, while you're stuck with the "grappling hook specialist".

On the other hand... I have to admit, I actually sympathise a little. The price of games has barely changed in the last 40 years but the production costs have skyrocketed, and while FIFA/PES make extra money in pretty disgusting ways (targeting kids with gambling mechanics), at least this is adding actual new content (maps for example). So I will probably fork out.

My problem with it, is this is going to going to have the least number of maps and content ever on launch day from a BF game.
This feels purely a cash grab to make extra money down the line.

Fortnite has proved the Freemium way kind of works, by letting people buy avatar components and additions to their guns, but doesn't allow purchased items to give certain people the advantage.
One of the reasons I kind of stopped playing BF5 was because, I only played it casually there was people with higher ranks and therefore not only better at the game but also had better weapons.

The main FPS I play is still PUBG, which again is now mainly the hardcore who play the game and are just outright amazing at it - I don't feel cheated as even though they are level 500, it is a level playing field in regards to the guns and weapons every one has.

I guess, I am just a grumpy old man, who still remembers the days of buying a finished product at launch or there being expansion packs at a much later date which actually added genuine content.
But I do understand now that the cost of games to make has sky rocketed over the years compared to the one guy in his bedroom, however the amount of people who own a PS4 compared to a Snes or even a PS1 has also quadrupled.

For XSX/XSS/PS5 the game will be 70U$, while last gen/PC will be 60U$. BF2042 wont have a campaign.
I'm gonna hold off on this game until reviews come out and people have had the time to experience a few balancing patches (skipped BF5, really enjoyed BF1). I'm not too crazy about the futuristic weapons/dogs.

I hope perks for paying more wont give an advantage to some players

I didnt like the trailer.
Battlefield, for me, was always about realism. Amazing huge battles, where you could really feel like you were just a tiny soldier in the middle of it.

Now I see people jumping from the plane, shooting rpg and going back to the plane.. this is not battlefield anymore. This is Fast and Furious..

Similar to football games - realism, which I love, is slowly replaced by Michael Bay Rambo style. Battlefield is getting closer to Call of Duty with each release.
And you can clearly see it in game.
There's no tactics, very little cover. People are just sprinting, jumping around like rabbits, spraying bullets. And everyone were bullet sponges.

The only thing so far that I like from all the news about Battlefield VI is that there will be an option to play against AI bots.
Which kinda gives me a hope that at least AI will behave like soldiers. And maybe this way it will be fun for me to play.

well, i did not like the trailer too much... but some of those scenes reminded me of older BF's and that was made on purpose!
the bazooka scene... its a signature move from the BF series! check "rendezook"... ;)

i dont like all the future stuff like the dog and such... i'd like to see a new single player Bad Company game first, but than a multiplayer thats like BF4, only more 2021!

Played it a little bit and MEH...
It is COD - I mean BF.

I just feel BF has lost it's way and been losing it further with every single release and they just try to copy COD, but add vehicles.

There are just better games out there now.

its back! :D

i had some fun last night... :APPLAUD: sure its a beta... none the less... our Squad really enjoyed a first step back to the battlefield!
just sitting in a tank or heli again, communicating with the squad, i wasnt aware i was missing that a bit.

The tanks seem really good, haven't got a clue how to fly a helicopter anymore. It all seemed a bit frantic last night but I only played one game.

reg. the helis: i had trouble with the sticks. LS is up and down + rotating left and right. RS is rolling left and right + tending up and down. i wish i could just siwtch rotating left+ right (LS) with tending up and down (RS)! would make it much easier for me. but maybe thats not wanted... balancing wise.

the tanks were easy to navigate and thats where we had the most fun. it feels so good to work as a team. bringing down other helis with 2 solders and 2 rocket launchers is a joy! :D

what i would like to know is, how to swap shoulder buttons (R1 to R2 vice versa with the L's) and howto change crouching from Circle to R3!

That will probably all come with the full game. Can you change attachments on the guns or is that locked too?

you can change them in a comfortable and good looking way... but i dont like those on-the-fly mod options in BF. it really was nice to handle, real quick and such, but i prefer to set up a good loadout before joining a match.

is there a como rose coming later?! what about integrating a map?!

Release date is coming soon, and it has been confirmed the console version will not contain Ray Tracing - This will be a PC only feature.

No one knows if this is just a launch window issue or if the game on XBX or PS5 will ever have Ray Tracing.
DICE apparently made the decision so that the game will push higher frame rates, which is the most important thing for a FPS.
So it is very likely the XSX/PS5 version will try and hit 4K @60FPS using dynamic resolution.

you will get this on PC, right?! your new machine probably cant wait for that feast! :D

I will be getting the PC version, as I have EA Play Pro.
However if I didn't then, I would not of bothered as the BETA was very meh and BF has moved away from what made it great.
DICE are just making a COD clone with vehicles these days, it is not the excellent tactical shooter it used to be. BF2 is still the best one released.

Hell Let Loose is just one example, how a game has pretty much cloned BF, but kept it to the BF roots rather than being influenced by more popular games.

yeah, you preaching to the choir here... i feel the same (and from what i got, we are not alone).
Bad Company 2 still being my all time favorite (if i had to pick) closely followed by the fun i had in BF4!

what about that wall hack feature in BF2042... ^^ for me, another example of them leaving their roots behind "conquering a new crowd"?! :R1

I will reserve further judgment on the game until it has been patched a few times, as the BETA needed a lot of fixing both in balance and bugs.
The game was far from finished and I get the feeling they are releasing now as it has to be out in time for Christmas.

So come April next year, we will have a better understanding of how the game properly plays
