Alessandro Del Piero beat the likes of Luis Figo, Thierry Henry and David Beckham to win the 2007 Golden Foot award.

The trophy is organised by the World Champions Club in Monaco and every year a shortlist of nominees is put up for public vote.

The winner must be over the age of 29 and “stand out for their sport results (both as single players and with their team), for their personality and for the esteem of the public and football experts.”

Juventus captain and World Cup winner Del Piero beat out competition from the other nine nominees in the public vote with 30,199 preferences.

Sempre Capitano :-)

Re: Alessandro Del Piero wins Golden Boot

03/09/2007 THE WINNER IS... DEL PIERO!

Alessandro Del Piero, the captain of Juventus FC, has won the 2007 GOLDEN FOOT award, the prestigious international career prize awarded by the fans voting on the www.goldenfoot.com web site. Del Piero took the lead since the poll opening (on 15th May last) and, even though his first position has been seriously threatened by Roberto Carlos, he has remained steadily the leader till the end of the poll showing that he is the football fans' favourite, and not only in Italy. The "Bianconeri" number 10, who won the 2006 World Cup with the Italian national selection, got 30,199 votes, Roberto Carlos, the Brazilian player of Fenerbahçe SK, who, thanks to his Turkish fans' votes struggled with Del Piero for victory till the end and almost got it through an exceptional comeback, finished second (with 29,174 votes). Quite unexpectedly David Beckham finished third (with 24,121 votes), he, thanks to the votes of his American fans, could surpass AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini (with 20,700 votes).

Golden Foot 2007 Winner Alessandro Del Piero: "To win this prize is really nice. Golden Foot is a very important prize in the world of professional football. I'm proud to be in a list with champions like Maradona, Platini and Zico, who left their footprint on the Champions Promenade here in Monte-Carlo. For a football player is massive to remain in people's mind for what he does scoring or winning".

The Italian champions has left his footprints on the CHAMPIONS PROMENADE togheter with great football legends as Gerd Müller, Mario Kempes, Paolo Rossi, Romário de Souza Faria and Hristo Stoitchkov.

He has already done "enough" to become a true football legend. The best thing is that we still have some years left to be delighted with his talent.

Isn't Del Piero the guy who came out with the best football related comment ever?

"A true gentleman never leaves his old lady."

:lol::applause::8):

Do you get it? Juve are know as The Old lady...

are we talking about the Delpiero who played against France??:roll:

this is an award for the carreer, not for the performances. infact this year alex was probably the only still playing player who was awarded (the others were romario, stoichkov, muller, Paolo Rossi).

anyway i can't see how u blame alex for yesterday's match. i mean, he played off role, as a wing (alessandro del piero.... a wing  donadoni, you're an idiot!).
he did what he could. none of his teammates helped him, nobody put pressure on french players, de rossi was 10 meters behind his correct position (even donadoni himself admitted it).... but de rossi never plays in that position, so it was a donadoni directive. del piero, playing as a wing, camoranesi couldn't cut inside, pirlo, well he almost didn't touch the ball.

yesterday both of the teams, italy and france, insulted football. also france was really poor, they can do much more than this. the real france would have smashed yesterday's italy.... but actually it wasn't french players fault... at least they tried to play football (we didn't even try). As usual, the only weak point in french team was domenech.... frey on the bench..... mexes on the bench....trezeguet on the bench......evra on the bench.... and who took their place???? landreau, escude, diarra, anelka .
also vieira was injured but still he placed him rather than toulalan.

this situation is really getting ridiculous. why france still didn't fire him??!!!!
i mean it's quite evident that he doesn't know anything about football, not even the basics, i mean, so why france is still paying him?
he's some sort of a living homer simpson. a stupid, ridiculous man, with no talent, no class, NO EDUCATION, no culture, no football knowledge, no human touch (his men management ability is the worst ever... ask mexes, sagnol, trezeguet, zizou....), he has no charisma............
he had the unbelievble chance to coach 2 of the greatest national teams in the world (and i won't ever understand why he got that job in first place)..... and breaking the theory of probability, he was able to win nothing...
each time he opens his mouth he just makes a fool of himself..... i mean how can sombody be so stupid to do what he did? ok, u're a looser, a pathetic poor little child whose best achievement was getting lyon in D1, you're not man enough to realize that the reason of your own failures is just your incapacity... ok, it's not so bad, afterall it's not your fault if french federation overestimated you..... but at least u got a brain! So why u did it? what's the purpose in letting the whole world see what a pathetic man you are, u knew that the whole world would have lauugh at your statements, so why cutting such a poor figure. the french federation had to excuse itself for domenech's words, undelining that what he said doesn't reflects their thoughts.

yesterday he had to face a really poor italy, a team that has not a tactical imprint (since donadoni is in charge), a team in awful fitness conditions (our league just started), a team without totti, nesta, toni, perrotta.....

.... but still he was able to influence the match with his ridiculous decisions.
it's really a shame to see such a great team with such a poor coach.... actually i wouldn't even call him a "coach" as it's an insult to the others national teams coaches.

sorry for this huuuge off topic, but i'm really mad to see this idiot coaching france.

Well said Zio :applause:

Sheva has won the award before.

About France... How can he also miss Frey and Mexes from the team???... when theyve been clearly above average for the last 2 years.

I also have little faith in the Italia team. We have a lot of talent but seem to be playing like the Trappatoni Italy of 2002.... scared to attack and relying on individuals to make a difference.

just reading my post again (from juveboy quote ), i realized that's something that i have to point out.
my previous post didn't mean to be an attack to french national team.
i love the french team and i love french football school. i'm just angry to see such a great team humiliated by such a poor coach.

I also have little faith in the Italia team. We have a lot of talent but seem to be playing like the Trappatoni Italy of 2002.... scared to attack and relying on individuals to make a difference.

yes mate, we have talent....but talent is not enough. otherwise the coach job would be pointless. there are many national teams in europe with a lot of talent (just to make an example i'd say that right now France has much more talent than us).
the most important thing is playing football. we aren't playing football anymore, since donadoni get the job.
me too i still think we still can make it.... but i really hope we won't. because if we'll make it donadoni won't be fired. and i don't wanna see italy playing like yesterday anymore... i don't care about playing euro 2008 if we have to play this way.
i wasn't happy when we managed to join the last euro championship, because i knew how we would have play.... nontheless we got the qualification.... and trapattoni wasn't fired... i really hope history won't repeat itself with donadoni.

i'm not saying that donadoni is a bad coach. he did wey well in livorno. but coaching a national team is a different story... it's a different job.... and donadoni isn't "cut" for it, imo.

I just respect the fact that you pointed out that ADP was played out of position & had no support from MF, our link up play was dire & creativity was poor , Playing 4-1-4-1 was just plain stupid.

Can I just remind people this thread was about his acheivement winning the Golden Foot, let's not start bashing him or the french.
