1628: Failed To Complete Installation - how to solve it?

I installed the game. OK.
I tried to apply the patch 1.20

During the process I got this error:
1628: Failed To Complete Installation

I'm trying to find out a solution but cannot get it.
I've read many pages and tried many methods.
Still no luck at all.

Please help me out.
Ah, I've tried on 2 different PCs.
One with Vista, the other with XP Pro.
Same error.

You have the US version of the DVD which can't be patched with that file. ML and OF saves are incompatible between each version too.

It sucks!
