09 Demo crashes on beast of a PC

Haha. But seriously, just installed the demo on my new setup - 3ghz core 2 duo with Radeon HD4870, 22" widescreen, set it to 1680 X 1050, 16:9, LB, PSX controller.

Started it up first time, and bang crashes when I select Exhibition, before the controller select screen loads. Music keeps playing, but screen stays black, can't even tab out, or ctrl alt del, have to reset PC!!

2nd time, it works, play a game, ok, back to top menu, and another crash, same thing, music keeps playing. Reset.

3rd time, same as 2nd time.

What's going on? Any ideas?

Also, while I'm here, I know there are many threads on resolution problems - mine looks fine at the resolution specifed above, but there are weird horizontal glitches running through it from time to time. Any ideas on how to fix that?

Thanks!

I really don't know what's wrong! Do you have the latest catalyst drivers? (Stupid question..) Try removing the LB. Maybe it's a fullscreen issue! Good luck

Edit:
P.s- Set vsync ON , in the catalyst center and in the game settings. That will remove the horizontal flick.

Woah I'm having the same problem and the closest thing similar to your setup is I have a Radeon 4850.

The weird thing is I played 2 full games different times, and then starting the 3rd time couldn't even get to the Exhibition mode without a crazy crash or the screen going black.

Cheers, I've actually just tried the Vsync thing before I read this, turned it on, and frame skipping off. Solved the flicker - looks nice and smooth now, but it also caused another problem - everytime the game cuts to a replay or a set piece, the game pauses for a second then goes in fast forward! Every free kick gets ballooned over the bar, and replays look like Sensible Soccer.

Will try unticking LB. What does LB mean anyway? And will turn on vsync in catalyst center (have latest drivers).

And, incidentally, on my 4th game, I quit out to come on here and update, and it quit no problem - no freeze at the main menu.

Thanks for the suggestions mamboto.

When you're using 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratios and enable "LB" it will resize the image and use a segment of the display. It limits the display screen with one black bar on top and other in the bottom.

I have a 3870 and I'm using these settings:

Fullscreen
(1680x1050) 16:9
No "LB"
High Quality
Frame Skipping ON (Check)
Vsync ON (Check)
Video OFF (Check)

X2 5000 BE O'ced 3.2 Ghz , 3GB ram and one 3870 512 Mb ddr4.

The game is perfect. No issues at all.

This is pretty weird. I think I've got pretty much the same settings as you Mamboto, and now it hasn't frozen for quite a while, and the flicker is gone - but all cut scenes, replays and set pieces are in fast forward! It's like some sort of Benny Hill sketch.

Any ideas how to stop this fast-forward effect? Or has anybody else encountered it?

Turn Frame Skipping ON I had the same problem it works fine now.

Just do what i and TooArmy said. Turn Frame skipping on. I placed my settings here, so you can put the same things. Our systems are different, your Videocard is much more powerful.
